Signs that a dog may have a fracture could be swelling, limping and limbs at unusual angels.
First aid:
• stop any bleeding by applying pressure
• don't flush the wound with saline or water, this could start bleeding.
• restrict animals movement
• don't splint the fracture (it could make it worse and you could get bitten if not using pain relief)
• keep the dog as quite and calm as possible
• if the fracture is open (has a wound at the break site) then this should be covered with a sterile swab or clean cloth
