With the novel being set in the late 1800s to the early 1900s really gives the novel a sense of wonder and adds an element of magic and wonder because none of us were alive during that time period, so we do not know what it was like to live in that time period. The time period alone gives Celia some much more power and to truly show how groundbreaking she is in that time where women were thought as assistants and not independent individuals.
