Two years ago during my junior year I was sitting in a cramped classroom filled with rowdy students when my English teacher assigned us a six page research paper. I would consider this research paper to be one of the hardest papers I had to write within three weeks. For most students three weeks is enough time to write a research paper unless you are like me who procrastinates often. Since my teacher gave us three weeks this gave me a great deal of time which brought a lot of distractions. My teacher was very helpful, she was always there to help us and she broke up the paper into smaller tasks with set due dates. Also the school librarian was always willing to provide information. My school had all the resources in order to complete the paper so there …show more content…
Unfortunately, words could not describe how challenging it was to do the assignment until I read Scarcity: Why having too little means so much by Sendhil Mullainathan and Eldar Shafir. The book helped me understand the challenges I went through trying to complete the paper. I realized that while my school organization was never affected by scarcity, I on the other hand was affected negatively by it. The book Scarcity:Why having too little means so much by Sendhil Mullainathan and Eldar Shafir proves that the school organization has a better plan to manage scarcity, whereas the lack of slack, giving into impulses and neglecting assignments can fall onto the student in a negative way. The authors of Scarcity:Why having too little means so much, claim that slack is due to the lack of a scarcity mindset when we have

The process of the research paper that was most challenging was organizing the paper. The reason organizing the paper was hard because I had to decide what was important information and how much of the information should I explain in depth. For example, my paper is about the history and benefits of Planned Parenthood, I had to go through and make sure I add extra information on events that led to the building of the first Planned Parenthood and recent history that was important to add. The process of the research paper that was most challenging was basically figuring out the flow my paper should be in for the reader to understand.…

The acronym TANSTAAFL stands for "There Aint No Such Thing As A Free Lunch. " When we hear the word free, there needs to be a red flag go up because as the saying goes there ain't nothing free, as there are resource costs somewhere in the mix (Sexton, 2012). With scarcity, we have unlimited wants, and limited resources and competition can make it difficult for allocating resources and efficiency makes the economic pie as large as possible (Sexton, 2012). For firms to compete, they have to become more efficient, and efficiency causes products to be better and cheaper, as Adam Smith said, "price is like an invisible hand to guide buyers and sellers to an outcome that is desirable" (Sexton, 2012). Again back to the saying nothing…

Throughout the first semester of College Composition, I wrestled with three essays, all differing in format and content. The first was a narrative that reflected our educational experience. After this came an analysis of a visual text, followed by a research paper. The narrative was the easiest to write; however, I acquired important skills for writing the other two, which were in a less familiar format. With the three essays, I learned about my own writing skills and habits concerning development and critical thinking, time management, and organization.…

As a young child at school, we had the Accelerated Reading Program. It was a program that encouraged children to read various books, and then after to take a quiz based on the books. This program really helped me, because the program pushed me to read more. Since I am bilingual, learning two languages as a child was a bit challenging for me, and learning how to read was even harder. I would sometimes mix up letters, vowels, and sometimes talk in Russian when I was supposed to talk in English.…

Statement of Experience with Students in Research or Scholarship – Thomas B. Mack During my two years as an adjunct professor at El Centro Community College, I have worked with over 100 students on their term papers. Specifically I worked with them to select a topic that they were first interested in, and second, one that was small enough that they could cover it sufficiently in a ten-page paper. I also provided guidance to the students on properly citing their sources and on how to write an effective paper. With most of my students having very limited experience in writing papers, I took time out of my lectures providing tips on using good grammar, the use of outlines, and on how to write in the “tell them what you will tell them, tell…

I decided my papers topic should be on solitary confinement almost right of the bat, but that eventually turned out to be problematic. I looked at everything I could find on solitary confinement, even things that were similar to solitary confinement, so I could have the best understanding as possible on the subject. Unfortunately, my research assignment became extremely difficult due to me not researching my supporting topics thoroughly before I began writing.…

We also did a lot of research papers on current events each year I took English. I also did a research paper every year for four years of high school. The research papers were usually either 5-8 pages long and had to be a 1000 words or more and just having a picture on a page didn’t count.…
