Would you kill to become king? Macbeth was told by the witches that he would eventually become king. At the beginning of the book Macbeth wanted to be king by chance but towards the end he would kill to be king.
During scene three Macbeth wanted to become king by chance. Macbeth said to Lady Macbeth “if chance will have me king, why, chance may crown me, without my stir.” This means he is not doing anything to become king. Macbeth wanted to be smart and nonviolent about being king, he wanted to wait to be king and do it the correct way. Macbeth also says “Come what come may, time and the hour runs through the roughest day”. This means Macbeth wants time to tell when he will be king.
