Why Does History Matter?

Decent Essays
1. Why does History matter?

History first is the series of past events that connect to someone or something. History matters because it is what started the world today, most people do not know this but it represents the foundation of a culture. why things are the way they are now and why our world is so corrupted today. I know you all may know the saying "Stop living in the past" and work to move forward. History also matters because it helps us to learn who we really are and how great our family history is. Personally I loved that I had the chance to do a family tree when I was like in the 5th grade. At that time I had an open mind and comprehended a lot at such a young age. History is important because it gives us a diverse geographic idea of what it was like based off our perceptions and then clarification once we apply our thoughts to the textbook.

My last name along is history, something that I am proud to live the legacy of. I am now just realizing history is where most traditional customs come from. History also for me is something that I can live with and pass down to the next generation to come. Knowing now that you can possibly change the future for better change, try things a different way knowing that the consequence when it was first attempted did not succeed as well. History also gives me a sense of gratefulness, just being thankful for the everyday essentials that were not supplied to our ancestors while going through everything they had to use to

Why is it important to document hidden histories? Before viewing Slavery by Another Name (2012), I was not fully aware of the atrocities committed against African Americans after slavery had been abolished. I knew that newly freed slaves had a hard time adjusting to freedom, but I never fathomed the oppression and torment they were subjected to as free Americans. My history classes throughout my education never included information regarding involuntary servitude and laws that were created to deliberately re-enslave African Americans and prevent them from having mobility.…

History is a subject based on story telling. Sometimes, it is based off letters and written documents. History is not written down for others to learn in a nonbiased opinion in the present moment. Historians must go through these documents later and decide what is biased, and what is not. They must read about an event from multiple perspectives and try and pick out what happened and what is an opinion.…

Winning in the American Revolution meant no longer being ruled by the British monarchy, which gave the newly established government the ability to make their own choices, but was this freedom for everyone? No, although, it was a step in the right direction. I used to think history was the study of past events and the causes or consequences that led to the present. However, I failed to realize that history also pertains to recognizable patterns and human behavior, in other words, history is the study of people.…

I agree with Bunch because learning about the past can change one’s perspective and change for the better. In my view, I would moved with the idea of displaying historical moments that changed America for the greater good. In addition, Bunch stated, “Here is a balanced history of America that allows us to cry and smile…” Some might object to the fact that people aren't ready to realize the truth about the past, of course on the grounds that, the historical backgrounds are what we observe to learn from them. Yet I would argue that history is an important subject because there has been many events that lead to where the government stands today.…

What a person does today will affect the future. If a person tries hard and works for something that they really want, or if they do not try at all then it will affect the outcome. History literally means his or her story. Stories are told to each generation to keep the memory alive and that is why history is so important, because otherwise the past would be unknown and people would not know the kind of hurt their families went through to be free, or the things that their ancestors did to make sure that their families in the future would get what they need. This is how the Underground Railroad is; it is stories of the hurt and tortured people that could just not take the pain any more so they took a stand, whether it meant losing their life…

History teaches how a single event can either hurt or protect the nations of the world. It has given light to what kind of minds run the world, and what power does when possessed by the wrong kinds of people. Through books and research, history is taught so catastrophes can never be repeated as long as everyone heeds to these warnings. For example the Holocaust, most would not want that to happen again; a whole race should not have to suffer at the hands of one ruler. Having hard grueling work with the risk of being shot just for pleasure, and even the medical experiments that would have no boundaries to what could be done.…

History is the recording of past events in time. The record keeping of our past is the reason we have what we have today; everything from government and military ideas all the way down to tradition and religion. If it was not for people keeping a record of everything that happened, whether it be good or bad, it is what helped shape the human race and evolve us into what we have become today. Although every group of people has their own structure and belief systems, the reason behind why they are there are because of the trial and error of past generations. People do not understand just how much Greek, Roman, China, India, Early Americas and the Islamic Empires history plays a part the ideas, institutions and art of the present day and how…

There have been many facts that ultimately decide if an event is historically significant. The amount of change, type of change , and why it changes are important factors in deciding if something is historically significant. I also think that historical significance can be different to every person, especail people in different countries. People in Africa are going to find very different things significant compared to someone in Canada because they have different cultures, beliefs, and ways of living. The government, teachers, parents, media, and other influential people in a person's daily life can also influence what we value as significant.…
