The article in this weeks assignment was titled Bench Blocks 101. A bench block is used to balance parts of the firearm during pin removal or pin driving process. The author Dick Mahue has an extensive collection of bench blocks for all purposes however, he stated he had a scrap piece of steel he had been using since the 1970's that was his main bench block, but was not sure of its original purpose.
I myself do not own a commercial bench block, however I use wood and scrap pieces of metal I have laying around to accomplish these type of tasks. Depending on the firearm I may use a padded vise or vise block for easier jobs. After reading this article I will be putting in in order for a few blocks he mentioned. This week’s reading in Gunsmith Kinks was one that I believe could do a lot of good for someone new to shotgun choking. Before reading the words of V.M. Starr in our reading this week I had next to no knowledge about how to choke a shotgun. Mr. Starr went on to explain that “his first experience choking a shotgun was in an old blacksmith shop on the farm in Ohio where he was born”. He stated that he and his father “took a shot-out muzzle loading rifle and bored it to about 24 gauge and worked a choke into it”. I wouldn’t in a million years think to turn a shot-out rifle into a shotgun.…

Mass shootings are only a small part of the overall violence in America, however, as time passes, this issue continues to worsen and is becoming a greater problem in the US than in other countries. Other industrialized nations have harsher gun laws that have prevented many different types of crimes. US states and cities have enacted laws to require unused guns to be safely stored, which helps keep guns away from criminals and children. People argue that stored guns can’t be used to defend themselves, but studies have proven that guns are very rarely used as self defense mechanisms.…
