Why Does Christopher Not Trust His Father

Improved Essays
I agree with Christopher to not trust his father because his father had lied about his mom being dead and how his father killed Wellington (the dog). I don’t think his father should’ve lied because Christopher later felt like he was too dangerous to live with. But if his father hadn’t lied none of the exciting things would have happened in this book. I also feel like he should’ve just confronted him about his mother instead of killing Wellington so the main character can figure it out. ( Haddon 120 - 122 )

The novel the curious incident of the dog in the night-time by Mark Haddon, Mr. Boone had shown how much he cared about his autistic son Christopher. As a parent, Olive Kitteridge was both a good and bad mother for Christopher. She is the type of person many over-protective mothers who only want “the best for their children”, and I put the quotation marks with that phrase because it is an understatement of the mothers’ huge expectations of their kids’ future lives. Whenever parents use the phrase, “I’m only doing this because it is best for you,” they are forcing the expectations into reality while hiding behind the pseudo-love for their children’s happiness. Parents like these create the “perfect” child they plan to raise, and Olive is just like that parent. She believed all these times that she was raising Christopher the way she expected him to because it would make his life and future…

“Happiness is only real when shared.” was written in Chris McCandless’s journal. The journal was found when the police and hitchhikers found his body in an abandoned bus where he had been living off the land in Alaska. This quote reflects McCandless’ belief because it tells you that he was happy sharing his journey with the people he met along the way. In the book, Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer discusses some other explorers that shared the same desire to experience the extremes of life. It tells about the journey that ended with the death of Chris McCandless.…

Parents are there to help us through it all but also to guide us in the right path. In the book, there are less obvious arguments, some I agree with and some I don’t agree with. At first, I thought Christopher mother had died. The second argument, would be Christopher going…

When Christopher starts lying about his investigation, he starts lying and sneak around. This causes a drift in his relationship with his father. In the beginning of the book, Christopher wanted to talk to his father about the dog. Both Mother and Father care for Christopher and can be justified as attempting to make the right decision for Christopher. Through analyzing Mother’s leaving, her reaction to Christopher returning, and her support for Father and Christopher’s relationship, in hand with Father’s hitting Christopher, his apology, his day to day caring for Christopher, and his heartbreak over the fractured relationship with his son we can see that Christopher’s parents actions, although not all justified, are understandable. Mother often receives the majority of the disdain from readers because she leaves Christopher and…

Christopher McCandless did not make the right choice in not letting his family know he was alive and well. Nothing hurts more than the loss of a loved one, the passing of Chris devastated his family. Chris left with the intention of not wanting to be found, Chris caused stress on his family because they had no idea if he was alive. The least that Chris could have done to communicate with his family would be to send them a postcard once in a while to let his family know he was still living. I believe Chris made the wrong choice in not telling his family, it caused his family emotional pain.…

On page 120 it says “Many aspects of Chris’s personality baffled his parents. He could be generous and caring to a fault, but he had a darker side as well, characterized by monomania, impatience, and unwavering self-absorption, qualities that seemed to intensify through his college years.” Therefore Chris’s childhood made him have enough with is father to where he left him, and tried to make him mad by giving all his own money for college to charity. It is clearer to people that these are the reasons why Chris didn’t communicate with his parents the whole journey through…

Even though that Chris had some similar hobbies as his father, Chris really didn’t have that good of a relationship with his father Walt. As it says in page 109 Chris received an F in physics because he didn’t follow the format that he was supposed to follow, and his father told him he got what he deserved. Chris didn’t like that his father had another family that he knew nothing about I guess that made him believe that his childhood was fake, full of lies. You can’t blame everything on his father, because Chris wouldn’t listen to his father sometimes. Like in page 111 how Walt says “Chris had so much natural talent,” “but if you tried to coach him, to polish his skill, to bring out that final ten percent, a wall went up.…
