Why Do Young People Have To Serve In The Military

It has been said that America is the land of the free and the home of the brave, but really America isn’t free if young men and women have to serve a mandatory service in the military. If a young man or woman wants to fight and die for our country on the front lines of war, that it should be their decision to make. First reason, young people in this country have so much more to live for. It is a proven fact that 17.68% of the young people that go into war die. It is also a proven fact that 48.20% are casualties. This might include being paralyzed, missing a leg, arm, or other body parts. Young people have a whole life to live, but instead are being sent out into the war and are being killed and permanently injured. Instead of this horrible fate, young people should be destined for college and other great things such as working to earn their pay or raising a family. There are very little amounts of people in America that want to serve in the war. The amount of people that do not serve in the military is a huge 99.5%. So, that is 99.5% that would have to serve in the military mandatorily. Most of America thinks that we need to turn our innocent, law-abiding U.S citizens into war machines. This is irrelevant. It has been said by the late, great John F. Kennedy to “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country”. His words are true, but that doesn’t mean that he wanted military service to be mandatory. As opposed to this, he was simply suggesting that you could go and fight on your own free will. Most people say that we “owe” our country. This is true, but what is also true is that America is a home of the free, and the home of the brave. It is your choice to decide when you repay the debt
