Have you ever wondered how it would feel if you got paddled instead of getting an after school, or noon hour? A paddle is a long wooden slab up to 24’ with a handle. This is a type of corporal punishment which is, the deliberate infliction of pain on an individual as a means of punishment or to change behavior. Getting paddled or spanked means to slap on the buttocks with a flat object or with the open hand, as for punishment. In the year 1997, there was a Supreme Court case, Ingraham v Wright. The courts ending decision was that paddling does not violate the Eighth Amendment. Even though paddling can change the emotional well-being of a student, paddling does not violate the Eighth Amendment, therefore paddling should be allowed in schools.
Firstly, paddling should be allowed in schools because it is the appropriate discipline for certain students. Discipline means punishment intended to correct or train. Giving a student a time-out or taking away their personal items such as their phone or video games may not work on the type of punishment they deserve.
