Diabetes afflicts more than 25.8 million people within the United States, or 8.3% of the population and is rising each year (Klein, 2013). From my personal experience, I see many patients newly diagnosed or hospitalized due to complications from diabetes. With diabetes on the rise in the US population, management, and patient education is something that needs to be more prevalent.
