I Establish Myself As A Writer

Why do writers write? If it 's not for the money why do writers write? Joan Didion said, “I write entirely to find out what I’m thinking, what I’m looking at, what I see and what it means.” This quote expresses to me why writers write. Throughout this course, I have experienced the opportunity to express myself as a writer and having the flexibility to do what I want. Expressing myself in my own why defines who I am as a writer, and this course has given me this. Taking this course last year was just a subject I chose to slide by, but little did I know that I would love this course and find my own writing abilities. Undergoing this course has helped me understand what it means to be a writer, in my own way I believe to be a writer is to express …show more content…
I was blank, I was suffering from writers block. After still being complete void, deleting word after word. I utilised David Malouf advice and decided to step back and ‘just focusing on writing, and waiting for the perfect book to create itself in my head’. Soon enough I began grasping for inspiration anywhere I could find it, from films to books, to starting out my window for hours at the old withering tree outside my window. That 's when the old tree outside my window started the idea for my personal interest piece. I learnt that inspiration comes from many places. My final piece is a reflection piece to express myself, like ‘Hi, this is me.’ I’ve always loved transparent books, a little mystery, a kind of major plot twist at the end, and this was one of the major things I was aiming for in my story. As I planning through my story, every new paragraph I asked for feedback, I asked my peers to help me develop my story further by getting their advice and having an open mind. Looking back on the many assessments I’ve accomplished, each one has influenced my learning and writing aspects. I have been able to take tonnes of new information and knowledge. Reflecting back on all assessment, with each one came a new challenge that allowed me to improve or develop a new skill on my own. The peer assessment

For as long as I can recall, I have been a creator. Before I even received my first essay prompts in school, as a child I already crafted stories to be transcribed by my father, or scribbled down by my own hands, or played out by toy dolls. I never even realized my natural inclination to writing until suddenly, around the third grade or so, my teachers and peers began noticing this peculiar aspect of myself. My essays were read aloud to the class, the teachers instructed me to assist my peers who struggled with grammar, the librarian gave me personal recommendations on which books were a satisfying read - sure enough, my aspiration to be a writer had been diagnosed.…

My first memory of reading and writing dates back to my kindergarten days when I could sit there in class and listen to my kindergarten teacher read to use. The teacher read slowly and showed us picture so as make sure that we understood what she was reading to us. She read to us for a number of times and now our turn to practice reading and writing came. I started learning how to write letters, words and finally composing sentences. Spelling was not my thing as I always struggled to get the spellings right.…

Going back over my fifth grade notebooks has not once failed to make me laugh and cringe at my boy troubles and lists of cute boys in my class. I love words. I love reading them, writing them and interpreting them. Through all phases of life, I had a usual nature to try and write my feelings down and call it art, even if it were scribbles on a Post-It note. Same goes for the song stanzas I wrote in seventh grade that were really loosely based on a Taylor Swift song and are still relatable today.…

I have learned that it is very important to be aware of my strengths and weaknesses in my writing. Taking this class has helped me understand the strengths and weaknesses in my writing skills, and it has given me the opportunity to strengthen the areas in which I was weak. Critical reflection Reflecting back on what I have learnt about myself as a writer is that it is okay to be aware of your weaknesses and using the necessary tools to support and strengthen them. As a writer it is good to step outside of your comfort zone and experiment with new genres. Let your writing take you on an emotional journey, and let your emotions lead your writing into a new journey. As a writer you need to expand your vocabulary and use powerful descriptive words to really create a mental image for your readers.
