Even though we have come to rely on instant replay, the technologies used in sports today was not always seamless.
There is an obvious relationship between advances in technology and its effect on sporting events. Instant replay in sports has probably has sparked as much controversy as it fixed since being introduced more than 50 years ago, but it's hard to imagine watching games today without it. One of the early pioneers named George Retzlaff, is credited with using a hot processor to produce a replay of a goal during the 1955-56 season (Allen, 2010). Retzlaff annoyed sponsors because he did not provide enough notice of his plan to use his innovation. The program's other production studio did not have the necessary equipment to duplicate his method, so for these reasons he never used it again. Tony Verna, who was hired as a director at CBS, had experimented with videotape while working the 1960 Rome Olympics (Allen, 2010). The National Football League (NFL) uses the instant replay method to review a specific play using various cameras at different angles to conclude or assess the accuracy of the initial call of its officials. The instant play in the NFL can take place in the event of a close or controversial call, by either the request of the team’s head coach; but there are limitations attached to it, or by the officials. Personally it is believed that instant replays like the ones used by the NFL showed be placed in all sports in order to sort through bad
