I am Patricia Morris, a student at Granada Hills Charter High School in southern California. I have a project to research and present an injustice that I am passionate about. Because of my love of animals and science, I chose animal experimentation as my topic. As I researched, I was inspired to fight for every living creatures’ right to quality of life. I have decided to help spread awareness of the dangers of animal testing, and to convince others to likewise push for change.

In animal testing, the animals are forced to endure excruciating pain on hot plates to test pain medication, have their eyes held open for days to test for eye irritation, and suffer in many other horrible ways (“Animal Testing”). Though many people think that animals

Tens of millions of animals are put through these dangerous experiments per year. ("Animals in Science/Research."). However, in an interview by Humane Research Australia, Dr. Andre Menache stated that the differences between animal and human biology are too great for the experiments to be relevant, stating “If we rely on animals to predict human response, we will get the right answer 33% of the time.” With products, especially ones that can hurt or even kill people, there should be ninety five to one hundred percent certainty on the safety, not thirty three percent. As such, animal experiments are not safe or reliable enough to be used as much as they are …show more content…
However, they do not work, and they just disappoint those affected by the diseases when they do not help. They can also harm the patients with side effects that were not seen in the animal experiments, sometimes even leading to the deaths of the patients ("Why Animal Experiments Are Not Necessary"). Doctors Against Animal Experiments Germany puts it as “Humans just aren’t mice,” so people cannot expect the “cures” that work for mice to work for

Animal Research is, has always been, and will most likely continue to be a delicate subject. The use of animals in research ranges from cosmetics to medical and wherever there are animals being tests there are groups of people arguing the morality and ethics of the testing being done. Excluding cosmetics and the like for now (that’s a different argument), the use of animal research in neuroscience is absolutely necessary and though it is a sensitive issue, there are ways to make it more ethically acceptable and to protect the animals themselves from blatant cruelty. Today, animal research is more humane than it has ever been.…

For example, “Animals do not get many of the human diseases that people do, such as major types of heart disease, many types of cancer, HIV, Parkinson’s disease, or schizophrenia. Instead, signs of these diseases are artificially induced in animals in laboratories in an attempt to mimic the human disease"(Cruelty-Free International Organisation). Experimenters are attempting to mirror human diseases by artificially creating symptoms in different species of animals, resulting in extremely inaccurate test results. Not only will it affect future test results, but it will also be dangerous for those who use the products. In addition, based on U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, nine out of ten experimental drugs are unsuccessful in clinical studies because experimenters cannot precisely predict how tests on animal species will perform in people, according to laboratory and animal studies.…

Animal Testing As a small pet owner, I know how lovable and amazing small animals can be as pets. Their innocent eyes and pure hearts have a way of looking into you and showing you that they love you no matter what, all without uttering a single word. These animals are without fault and without blemishes, and yet each day these animals are being used in animal testing and experimentation. For years these animals have been poked and prodded in the name of science, their lives taken from them so that they may live in packed cages and be cruelly treated for our benefit.…

Animal testing is among one of the most controversial issues worldwide. Animal testing can lead to many great discoveries in our constant evolving world, but can also endanger the lives of innocent creatures. Through many arguments, animal testing puts the life of animals at risk in order to try to make advancements in the medical, cosmetic, and scientific fields. The first animal testing began in the 17th century on numerous animals to demonstrate blood circulation. Animal testing expanded quickly and in 1876 parliament passed the Cruelty to Animal Acts in Europe.…

Heart attacks, organ failure, and lethal dysrhythmias are only a few of the dreadful reactions humans have suffered through on medication as a result of the inaccuracy of animal testing (Greek). Using animals for experiments is incredibly inaccurate due to the vast differences between animal and human biological makeup (Animal Aid). As a result, during past experiments, medications have had “totally the opposite effect” on animals than they did on humans (Animal Aid). Consequently, after already turning innocent animals into unhealthy victims while producing these products, humans themselves have also become oblivious victims to this research technique as they consume these unreliable items. Scientists spend many stressful hours conducting research through this unstable technique, while their outcomes are rarely advancements in health care.…

Animal testing is not the same as taking your companion to the vet. Some people believe that animal experimentation is beneficial, but for others it is cruel and a form of torture. Animal testing is any scientific experiment where a live animal is forced to suffer through a procedure that will most likely bring them pain, suffering, or death. After living a life full of pain, loneliness, and terror, almost all of the animals will be killed. Due to the stress of their living conditions, some animals began to develop disturbing types of behavior.…

Animal Experimentation Animal experimentation has been around for many centuries. Humans perform these experiments on all species of animals to find different effect of a product it could have on a human. Three advantages in particular advantages are, it helps scientists gain a better understanding for cures of different diseases, this practice makes a vital advance in medicine, and for the expense of treatments and cures animals should not have rights when it comes to research. Although there are many advantages to animal experimentation, there are also disadvantages which include, there is no benefit for the humans, it is cruel, and is dangerous for humans to be treated only after a trial on animals. The first advantage to animal experimentation is using animals like rats can help the scientist gain better knowledge for different…

People fight and cry for their freedom, while others have turned their heads and chosen to ignore their plight. Some others have taken even further steps in the wrong direction, choosing to believe that each type of animal testing is terrible and trying to condemn medical research as well, endangering countless lives in doing so. Cosmetic testing needs to be stopped, to save not only the animals who suffer through it, but to save the souls of people as well. Animals can save humans as much as we can save them in a way, but to avoid continuing to be the cruelest species, the cruelty inflicted on animals for vanity must be stopped, for the sake of…

Although animal experimentation has provided many benefits, there are alternatives to test toxic substances that may eliminate the cruel use of animals in research. The United States, along with many other countries, have turned to the use of animals in research labs to test human products for hazardous substances. According to the Kennedy Institute of Ethics Journal, the United States uses about 12 million animals every year making it the biggest conductor of animal experimentation in the world. Scientists and many companies believe that testing their products on animals save humans from being harmed if the product is toxic. However, no matter what the benefits of animal experimentation are, the tests conducted on the animals are cruel.…

Animals are deeply injured and suffer from diseases, infections and tons of pain from these tests. Specifically, different types of harmful tests practiced on animals are such as, “Examples of animal tests include forcing mice and rats to inhale toxic fumes, force-feeding dogs pesticides, and dripping corrosive chemicals into rabbits sensitive eyes” (101). To imagine these animals sitting and waiting in fear for the next painful procedure to come is pure sickening. These incredibly cruel and painful tests animals have to go through are incredibly abominable to even think…

After studying multiple views on animal testing I have come to realize my personal view has now changed since the start of my research. Before undergoing heavy study into animal testing I believed that all types of animal testing should be stopped, but now I believe that the idea is very beneficial and should only be done when the rights of the animal are considered. In the coming years, hopefully, more regulations can be passed to ensure that all animal’s lives are protected during experimentation. Although most animals are treated with care and no pain is dealt to them when undergoing testing, it would be a lie if I stated no animals are harmed during the process. Animal testing is extremely useful in developing life-saving drugs and medicine.…

The drugs Oraflex, Selacryn, Zomax, Suprol and Meritol produced such adverse side effects in humans, including death, that they were removed from the market, though animal experimentation had predicted them all to be safe. One of the few studies that examined the differences in species reactions found only a 5-25% connection between harmful effects in people and the results of animal experiments (MFAT). Also these animals are in an unnatural environment, where they will be under stress. Therefore, they won't react to the drugs in the same way compared to their potential reaction in a natural environment. This argument further weakens the validity of animal experimentation.…
