Why Do We Have Guaranteed Freedom

Improved Essays
Have you ever wondered if we actually have guaranteed freedom? This essay is a debate whether we have guaranteed freedom or not. I personally believe that we have to fight repeatedly for our freedoms. In this essay I will argue that our freedom has been repeatedly fought for such as: fought a revolutionary war to gain freedom of self government and fought a civil war to end slavery. We are even currently at war with radical Iraq. I feel my opinion is correct, and here is why. First, it started back in 1775 when the Americans wanted to declare independence from Great Britain while at war. We sent Great Britain a declaration of independence so we could win over our freedom, and succeeded. In the second paragraph it says “We hold these truths …show more content…
At any moment, Iraqis could invade the United States and our freedom could be gone in a snap. There has been war and tension with Iraq over the recent years. We are over there fighting for our freedom right now, showing them who is boss. The second we let our guard down, we can lose our freedom- this is why agree with the idea of us still constantly fighting for our freedom. I strongly feel that we are constantly fighting for our freedom, but I understand why someone could disagree and here is why. We are guaranteed freedom in the Constitution- it is all written out, which is one reason why I would think that our freedom is guaranteed. Another reason is that while all of the wars relate back to freedom, they are all different circumstances. The Revolutionary about gaining our freedom, the Civil about freedom of slavery, and the radical Iraq situation is about potentially losing our freedom. These are both valid points, but I stand firm with my beliefs. In conclusion, I argued that our freedom needs to be repeatedly fought for. I argued about this because of some wars that proved my points. I included the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, and the current battle against radical Iraq. I showed points on why I think I’m correct . This is why I feel my points are strong and show why I feel this

The America I believe in. On January 20th, 1981 Ronald Reagan during his speech A warrior's pledge said “The price for this freedom at times has been high, but we have never been unwilling to pay that price.” I feel this has never been any more true than now. People have fought and died for this country to protect our rights and keep our country free. As a boy scout at every meeting I recite the pledge of allegiance, the law and the scouts oath.…

A tremendous leader, Thomas Jefferson, once said, “that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness” (Jefferson). Thomas Jefferson and Patrick Henry were both passionate about onsetting a movement to assist the colonists to live in the land of the free. Their objective was to leave the British King by persuading the colonists to be fearless enough to leave, however the colonists would have to be willing to forfeit their valuables. By revisiting history, individuals learn the steps the founding fathers took to freedom, even though they spoke to different audiences the goal of life, liberty, and pursuit happiness was compatible. Did you know that more Americans died in the Civil war than any other American conflict. The American Civil War changed Americans’ thinking about freedom by causing us to consider the purpose of our country. The first change was equality for all. Another change brought about by the Civil War was affirming States Rights. A final change secured by the war was the American duty to fight for beliefs.…

“Freedom is never really won, you earn it and win it in every generation” ~Coretta Scott King. This might be true for some people, but some people might disagree. For the people that disagree think that if we all stay peaceful we can all stay the way things are or even better. In my opinion people should stay free permanently because people should have to fight for something they have already earned many years ago.…

“War is sometimes necessary to preserve freedom.” In the article, “Fighting For Our Freedom,” the author, Tom Mullen states, ¨The first two post-WWII wars were justified for ostensibly the same reason. We supposedly had to prevent the communist governments of North Korea and North Vietnam from taking over South Korea and South Vietnam, respectively, because if we did not, communism would spread like a virus throughout all of Asia and eventually the world. North Vietnam did take over South Vietnam. The U.S. pulled out of Vietnam and in defeat and the very outcome that the U.S. had spent 14 years, the lives of 50,000 U.S. soldiers, and hundreds of billions of dollars attempting to prevent came to pass.…

Liberty, equality, and power are themes that have remained constant throughout all the different events and circumstances that America has been through. Whether it was those who escaped from England wanting liberty, the fear of presidents having too much power, or to the lack of equality in the Jim Crow south. There is a continual debate on how much liberty, equality, and power is too much or too little. Throughout this analysis, I will detail how each of these concepts affected eras in American history like the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, and the Jim Crow era. The Revolutionary War Era was filled with confusion, misconceptions, and challenges.…

Andrew Lampman HIST 202A-03 MW 0800-0930 An American Discourse to Liberty Americans often remember the battle cry of Patrick Henry “Give me liberty,” though many forget that with the liberation of America in the 1770s from British control many remained in bondage in this nation. The American Revolution revealed the hypocrisy of liberty, as the colonies fought for independence, and yet enslavement remained an integral part of the new nation. Liberation was the idea that men had certain inalienable rights that were deemed “god given.”…

Freedom is a foundation that guides the framework of everyday society. It is a principle that is responsible for the creation of law, government, institutions, behavior and so forth. As Americans, we have found ourselves fortunate enough to be guided by a democratic government that serves to protect the freedoms of the individuals who proudly chant the motto, “Land of the Free and Home of the Brave”. Yet, often people fail to truly understand what freedom means. In order to do so, it is critical to examine historical political writings on freedom, specifically the teachings of Rousseau and Mill.…

“If the meaning of freedom has been a battleground throughout our history, so too has been the definition of those entitled to enjoy its blessings. Founded on the premise that liberty is an entitlement of all mankind, the United States, from the outset, blatantly deprived many of its own people of freedom” (Foner). This quote shows that the concept of Liberty and Equality have been fought over multiple times throughout the course of our history and has been debated multiple times. Everyone deserves a chance to have his or her own liberty. Before the Civil War it had taken away this entitlement to liberty from all African American slaves and weren’t given the chance to enjoy it.…

Liberty vs. Security Our first attempts at a government gave us the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights, the Constitution and an outline of what the founding fathers wanted the United States of America to be. They believed in a limited government, because they had already lived under a tyrannical ruler, and the United States was their vision of living in a free world. If too much power is given over to one person, you will end up with a Hitler, or a Kim Jong-Il. I believe Benjamin Franklin hit the nail on the head, and at the rate the United States is going, we will not be the democracy our founding fathers intended. Men have always wanted to be powerful and control what is around them, it is human nature.…
