Video games have been around for many of years. With the first videogame console dating all the way back to the 1970s. However, the first commercial arcade video game, “Computer Space” by Nutting Associates, was introduced in 1971. The videogames that we know now are nothing like they use to be back in the 70s. With 155 million videogame players worldwide and about 80% in which have a gaming console in their household (North). It is just something that has to be incorporated into a videogame so that it sells. Many professionals agree with this and would take not to believe that most of the big selling games incorporate such features. For example, the popular multi-platform game “Minecraft” is about adapting to survive on an island that you’re stranded on. Sure there indigenous people living on this island but they don’t physically help you. Games like “Minecraft” teach its players some of the basic things they would need to do if they ever get stranded on an island. Things such as building a fire, house, finding and farming food, and to develop the tools necessary for surviving dangerous encounters. In an article written by (Vandenbroucke) he goes on to discuss how games like “Minecraft” can prove to be beneficial for children to play in the sense that it can help them develop reading and writing skills. He says that the benefits don’t come from the actual game play, but that the skills come from the research the players will do in order to learn how to do certain things in “Minecraft”. Since “Minecraft” has a very limited tutorial children who play this game will go on the internet and find out how to craft certain items necessary for survival with in the videogame.
