Valuables can consist of material goods and traits. Despite Jonathan Iwegbu losing many his material assets, he still possesses happiness in Chinua Achebe’s “Civil Peace,” which allows him to get through life in a loving and caring manner even after the war. Although during the war he gave up all his belongings to the war effort in order to support the cause he still had five things he felt extremely lucky for and that made him a happy person. “He had come out of the war with five inestimable blessings-his head, his wife Maria’s head, and the heads of three out of their four children.” (389).
