Why Do Science Olympiad Persuasive Essay

Decent Essays
I would continue to do Science Olympiad if I had to pick only one. Reason being is because of my passion for STEM and being able to compete with students that share the same interest. My favorite thing about Science Olympiad is the variety of competitions they hold and to see the result of your effort by being awarded with medals. Especially the tension of waiting for your events to be called and the countdown of each medalist ranking. Overall, the suspense, the excitement and my love for science and math is what attracts me to this activity the most.

On April 28, 1992, Chris McCandless stepped foot into the woods, a journey that would last four months, coming to an end much earlier than he would’ve hoped. In August of 1992, just four months after Chris walked alone into the wild, his perishing body was found by a party of moose hunters. Chris went into the wild hoping to get away from corrupt society and to live a transcendentalist lifestyle. His bold journey was going well until he made a silly mistake when he came across seeds from the wild potato. The society we are being raised in has shaped us into mindless, mechanical robots. Our opinions are being spoon-fed to us through forms of entertainment to the point where we can’t even think for ourselves anymore. Our status and our worth is based off of how many things you have. Not the measure of intelligence. Not the measure of creativity.…

The writing expected from college courses is one that most are unfamiliar with. Although students learn basic English skills throughout grade school and up to high school, most of the advanced steps are forgotten by the time the student is to enter college. Paired with this, are the nontraditional students, who haven’t studied advanced academic language for long periods of time. Professors are expecting students of all kinds of study to have a high academic vocabulary and high writing skill. Often times a gap in remedial writing courses within the first semester or so.…

Despite the new outburst of year-round schooling across the nation, I have the firm belief that we should retain the traditional system. Most schools who have switched to the year round calendar switched back to the traditional one because the anticipated instructional advantages haven’t materialized. In some cases, it even results in a drop of one to two percentile points in national rank for reading, math, and language scores, compared to a traditional calendar. It is not a good idea to keep making this change.…

Hannah Anderson Mr. Bertelsen English 3 23 February 2017 1st place, 2nd place, last place. These days it seems like no matter what place you get you receive some sort of prize or award. I don’t think that everyone should receive a prize because that way kids won’t be learning anything for the real world when they grow up, not everyone deserves it, and getting first won’t seem like such a big deal. If kids are rewarded for everything they do, no matter how well they do it that won’t be preparing them for the real world. Kids have to learn that when they grow up if they aren’t the best they aren’t going to get noticed just for participating.…

Dear Aurora Public School Board Members, APS schools provide a choice in playing sports in middle schools, K-8 schools, and high schools. Girls can do swim, track, soccer, volleyball, and basketball while boys can do wrestling, track, soccer, and basketball. Although the sports are expensive, we should not cut them.
