Imagine riding a school bus on the way to school in the morning or coming home from a hard day at school. Suddenly, the bus is hit by an oncoming car, no reason other than reckless driving. However, this reckless driving has a consequence. Since there is no protection for accidents, everyone on the bus automatically has at least one injury either major or minor. All of these injuries that these students have to suffer through could have been solved by one factor, the requirement of wearing a seatbelt while riding the bus. Now because of that, everyone was was at greater risk of getting hurt or possibly killed in the accident that was only because a driver wasn’t doing what they were supposed to do. Everywhere children are getting hurt or killed, not by car accidents but by school bus crashes as strange as that should sound as School buses are thought to be safe. An article explains a crash in a Houston School district where two students who were riding the school bus were killed and an additional three students were injured as well. In the article, it states that “A 17-year-old junior at REACH Charter High School was pronounced dead at the scene. A 14-year-old freshman at Furr High School was transported to a local hospital, where she also was pronounced dead” (Mike Kennedy 1). In this accident, it is said that the bus went off of the overpass it was driving on and fell down to the road underneath. This article shows exactly how much of a higher possibility adults and children have of getting hurt by using public transportation including buses who don’t require their riders to wear any type of protection including seatbelts. The information about this crash proves how children are getting hurt and killed more in accidents and crashes related to school buses because the three students were injured showed injuries that turned out to be very severe. These children were so greatly injured because of the fact that their school bus didn’t require the students to wear their seatbelts at all times while riding.
