Traditionally, drugs have been used for medicinal purposes to treat certain symptoms or illness. However, there has been a recent trend where drugs have been used for recreational purposes as well. According to Merriam-Webster (“Recreational Drug,” n.d.) defines recreational drugs as, “a drug (as cocaine, marijuana, methamphetamine) used without medical justification for its psychoactive effects often in the belief that occasional use of such as substance is not habit-forming or addictive.” Recreational drugs affect variety of people from different ethnicity, age groups, and even regionally as well. From a historical standpoint, the use of tobacco dates back in United States history as early as 1600's. In the “History of Tobacco” (n.d.) describes, that they first used tobacco as a cash crop that helped create a market to use it as a product. While its use was for monetary gains, recreational use of tobacco hasn't emerged until the late 1800's. James Bonsack, an American inventor, created a cigarette machine to mass produce tobacco to the public as fast as 120,000 cigarettes per day (“History of Tobacco,” n.d.). Eventually the dangers of tobacco, soon rose as health issues became present among those who uses it. In 1965, the United States Congress legislates the Cigarette Labeling and Advertising Act that cigarette companies must state a warning label on each pack describing the risk of health upon smoking (“History of Tobacco,” n.d.). The Comprehensive Smoking Education Act, in 1984, forces cigarette companies to change warning labels every three months on packs (“History of Tobacco,” n.d.). According to “Cannabis, Coca, & Poppy: Nature’s Addictive Plants” (n.d.) explains that the oldest known use of cannabis comes from ancient China in 2727 B.C. Eventually the use of the plant spreads out to North America to commoditize products such as, animal feed, rope, and oil for paint. When medical use of marijuana was questioned by skeptics, they state that using this drug could affect cognitive abilities in a negative way. Currently, drug enforcement policy labels cannabis as a Schedule I substance to have no acceptable medical use and poses risks for abuse (“Cannabis, Coca, & Poppy,” n.d.). According to National Institute on Drug Abuse’s article “DrugFacts: Marijuana” (2015) explains, that marijuana can affect the brain through the chemical of THC. THC has the ability make the brain more active than normal by changing senses, sense of time, mood, body mobility, logic and reasoning, and memory. If the individual uses marijuana frequently for long periods of time, there could be negative consequences affecting their health
