Jay Gatsby changes his emotions thought the whole story. In chapter 5 Gatsby wants nick to invite over daisy for tea. At the point of daisy’s arrival Gatsby is seen nervous the first time he is seen nervous in this novel. As the three sit for tea in a huge awkward moment. Nick proposes to leave and lets Gatsby alone with daisy, but on his return nick finds Gatsby moved from total embarrassment to unbound delight. The mask she wears hides the fact that she choose to be married into wealth, so her interest of social status was more important. Jennifer Baker noted that “spending and borrowing figure as feminine impulses in economic discourses: women are associated with fantasies of wealth, consumer impulsiveness, and insolvency.” Daisy left the thought of love or what seemed like love, but her true love was money.
