Steroids are any of a large class of organic compounds with a characteristic molecular structure containing four rings of carbon atoms. They include many hormones, alkaloids, and vitamins. Steroids can be very helpful and are often used by doctors to help patients recover from any struggle in their way. Steroids can help help with so many things, but the negative side effects will often outweigh the good that comes to those who aren’t permitted steroid use. The harm, types, punishments, addictiveness, and alternatives of steroids will be expound upon through the course of this paper. Like any other prescription given by a doctor, steroids often get abused. But even before one gets into the use of steroids, they should know what they can do to your body. The body is affected in many harmful way from the consumption of steroids. After the process of taking steroids, one's well-being may be put into danger. Steroids are often used through injection, by using a needle to inject the drug directly into the bloodstream or into the muscle. There are also pills or gel tabs that are taken orally, or creams that are rubbed directly onto the user’s skin. Although a lot of steroids are prescribed from a doctor, the majority of steroid consumption are from recreational use. Like any other prescription, the use may often times be abused. There are hundreds of varieties of steroids that have been developed, but only a limited amount have been approved for human use.
