However, education on addiction provided to pharmacists is not satisfactory – they should have enough training to counsel effectively, and help prevent addiction. For instance, Dr. Lynn Lafferty, Pharm. D., a licensed pharmacist who is devoted to discovering the most effective way to endorse wellbeing, states a questionnaire indicates, “A majority of responding pharmacists (67.5%) reported participating in two hours or less of addiction/substance abuse education in pharmacy school” (Lafferty 3). More than half of pharmacists do not have enough knowledge to handle the complexities of addiction, and it is upsetting since addiction can happen to anyone on a psychoactive substance. Also, patient’s health is in pharmacists care when they dispense medication hence, they should be first to identify addictions.…

okay, though. Just pop adderal and xanax all day and the world is rainbows and sunshine. Real disorders and real problems are ignored because society is content with getting people high and being done with it. Material science has demonstrated that with each activity there is an equivalent and inverse response. This is valid with drive and energy however with a medication treatment program the inverse activity is not going to be equivalent to the first. Medicate treatment projects are confronted with a difficult task that society and its individuals have a profound established personal stake in its prosperity. First time to long time medicate clients confront an everyday test to either manhandle medications or fight the temptation to begin. To battle the developing medication issue in America we contribute a ton of time and cash in medication treatment programs.…

In the United States, there has been a rapid increase of Americans with a prescription for psychotropic medications. Pharmacutical companys are spending more on advertizing, as well as, influencing doctors to push their products on to more patients and in larger quantities. There has been much controversy raised about whether or not regular medical doctors have enough training to accurately prescribe psychotropic drugs to mental health patients verses psychiatrists; however, shouldn’t all doctors know everything about what they are prescribing before they precribe it? One aspect of prescriptions that some doctors many over-look, patients may not be aware of, and is a quickly growing problem in the United States is the potential for abuse of…

Thank you for sharing your thoughts about polypharmacy. Polypharmacy is a concern in elderly because of the multiple medications that they take for their co-morbid conditions. I agree, I noticed that most of the medications that they take consist of prescribed medication, herbals, and over-the-counter drugs. Their multiple medications can possibly lead to polypharmacy which can result to morbidity. Health care professionals should be more vigilant of the risks and interventions that decrease the danger of harmful drug combinations (Sibel & Yesil, 2012).…
