Why Do People Kill Or Assault?

I am studying psychology, and I know many of the causes and statistics behind why people kill or assault. I know that many attackers lack empathy for their victims, and I still do not truly understand how one human being can be so cruel to another. Every time I listen to victims of any abuse or violence, I just do not understand where their abuser did not see their humanity, especially in someone they know. Hearing about how many people do not speak up, makes me wonder how many women and men are dealing with the trauma of sexual violence alone. I already know people that are close to me who have been through some type of ordeal. I too have had experiences where I was reduced to an object. No matter the variation they have overwhelmingly shown that women are the main targets of violence, and men are the main perpetrators. I could not understand for years why people were so passionate about silencing people who were trying to tell the truth of what happened to them. Not only do countless samples show the issue of sexual violence, I have met very few women who have not been harassed at the least. Yet, I have watched families disown children rather than accept the horrible things they have gone through. Every time sexual violence is brought up, people are eager to change the subject. Internet trolls will say things to victims no decent person would say. Even worse, average people will jump in to call the victim a liar with absolutely no reason to do so. It never made any sense to me what people think a victim gains out of coming forward. All the attention is accusatory and they get to relive the trauma, and its not even likely much will be done even if the perpetrator is
