Why Do People Have Their Personal Identity

Before coming into this course, I was not completely sure about the meaning for someone who was transgender. I learned that someone who is transgender is someone that senses their personal identity and gender does not correspond with their birth sex. Millions of people struggle with their personal identity and it is even tougher when they do not have anyone to talk to about what really is going on with them. I honestly was shocked when I first saw the video I could not believe someone that little would question their sexuality. Danann was only 4 years old when she knew god had made a mistake bringing her into this world as a boy. She even had conversations about chopping her penis off. She is only 7 years old and she identifies herself as a girl and will get mad if someone approaches her as a him. This situation does makes me feel kind of impatient because what does a 7-year-old kid know anything about their identity. Erica was 8 years old when she started exploring with her mom clothes and she described herself feeling natural in women clothes. In 2007, her second wife found women clothes and confronted her. She confessed about being happy and feeling herself when she was dressed that way. The wife knew she had to move aside for Erica to find herself and be happy. Pam shared playing with her mom’s cosmetics at a young age and she would wait for everyone to get out the house to be able to play with her stuff. Pam came out 20 years into a marriage after having 3 kids. She found herself playing with her wife’s stuff now just like when she was younger. In a way, I feel sad for Erica and Pam because they both lived a life they didn’t want to live and waisted half of their lives trying to play a role they didn’t feel comfortable living
