The primary reason for people to avoid developing their own ideas is to feel welcome in a community. For example, in the recent presidential election of 2016 between Democratic candidate Hilary Clinton and Republican candidate Donald Trump, many people chose one or the other based on what the people near them chose. A more historic example of this is seen during World War 2. During this time, the Nazi party was prosecuting the Jewish people for what they believed in. Jews were sent to concentration camps and murdered by the millions. The ones who left their views behind were desperate to survive, and were forced to conform the Nazi's beliefs. A more recent example of this can be seen in the Middle East with the battle against ISIS. People who are homosexual or not Muslim are being slaughtered by ISIS only because their views are different from the views of ISIS. ISIS is creating a society where it is conform or be killed, and people from any age are being forced to make this decision.
