Why Do Kids Play Violent Video Games Affect The Brain?

Have you ever noticed how after kids have been playing violent video games they seem to not be as nice as before? Playing violent video games makes a kid more likely to act out and to use aggression to solve problems. As soon as they play a violent game, they are more likely to use aggression and think more aggressively, as well as being more likely to use violence and act violently. Kids who play violent games tend to lose activation in the part of the brain that controls emotion which makes them less likely to do well while participating in emotional tasks. Another reason that playing violent games is bad for the brain is because of the way media portrays torture. Playing violent games has made it where society has begun to accept violence and the media uses it for advertising and in tv shows as well. Media violence is a very common thing in today’s society, but what people don’t realize is that it is actually very harmful and can cause damage to the brain as well as make kids act out and be more aggressive than they normally would be. …show more content…
Yang Wang from Indiana University has shown that when kids play violent video games for long periods of time they can lose activity in their brain when participating in emotional tasks. The violence in the video games makes the part of the brain that controls emotion “change” so that it doesn’t work as well. Kids become desensitized to real emotion (Gordon). Because of these violent games, the kids don’t react to emotional things, such as death, because they don’t think that it is real. Emotion is a very important part of life and if their emotions are being influenced by violence they may resort to violence if something emotional happens and they don’t know how to cope with it.
