The important thing to notice is that recent research has shown that 4 in 10 emergency room visits for kids between the ages 5-14 years are caused by sports. This shows that competitive sports are stern. If almost half of the people that go …show more content…
Since most competitive team sports play to win your kid could be one of those kids that sit on the bench the whole game. Maybe they go out for a little bit, but then they get pulled out because they did something wrong. Which gives the kid, no chance to fix his/her mistake. (NBC News, 9).Stated in the article by Jeff Pearlman, it says “He made it painfully clear to the others that my brother was the weakest of weak links, that he was useless as a soccer player.” When you play a team sport it usually says that every player is required to play during the game. When a kid that is not good at the sport is thrown into the game with other kids that are better at the sport, and they don’t pass the ball to him/her at all then that could put the kid down because he/she will start to think that he/she is not as good as everyone else. People can get ahead of themselves and start thinking about scholarships, going to the Olympics, and playing on a professional Major league team. This could improve the person’s confidence and make them really confident. But if they are too confident and they mess up, then their confidence could down on them. (NBC News,18). This connects to an NBC News article which states “it’s not surprising that some athletes simply burn out on their sport.” This happens because the parent wants their kid to get really good at a sport and when the kid keeps doing the same sport over and over again for a long time, then the kid will most likely start getting bored of the sport.(NBC News, 1). Lastly stated in The New York times article it states “Now I wanted to help him make the right choice, if only I knew what that was.” When parents start think about what sport they think that their kid could play so then they could get a college scholarship. It is not just about what sport they play and what they could get a easy scholarship with it’s just are they good at it. If the kid is not good at the sport then there is no point in having them do that sport because then it is less likely that they are going to get the scholarship. (New York times, 1).
In the end, the most important thing is that kids should not play competitive sport because it puts down their self-esteem, puts are the stress and
