Why I Want To Be An Artist

Improved Essays
I have been an artist almost all my life and more recently I have become a serious and driven academic as well. When I was a little girl I dreamed of becoming many things: a chef, a teacher, and a librarian among the lengthy list. Becoming a leading contemporary art practitioner and researcher in a world that is more connected than ever, however, had no place in the dreams of that little girl. Instead, it was an ambition released by a woman halfway through the second year of her Bachelors when she realised that there is more to art than pretty pictures and that there is more to herself than mediocrity. Golden Key values academics, leadership, and service, and implores their members to live up to these standards daily. Throughout my degree, …show more content…
He is an incredible artist and one of my tutors at the Queensland University of Technology. When I met him I was still in high-school and was not considering a future in this industry. I had been told by countless people, as I have already mentioned, that my desire to be an artist was discouraged and mocked and belittled. Being an artist in front of these people made me feel inferior and worthless. I felt as if I could never be successful; that I could never be happy even though I would be doing something that drove me crazy with passion. I still went to an information evening about the course that I am currently studying out of curiosity. I listened to him speak about a world that was connected and intertwined with so many different perspectives and ideas. A holistic world, a world that encouraged empathy and intelligence. A world that even though was filled with so much terror and confusion could be reminded of beauty and the importance of a voice. I went home that evening and changed my university application. I firmly believe that everything he passionately discussed is true, and I plan to play an active part in that …show more content…
I have plans to undertake an additional year of Honours after the competition of my Bachelor of Fine Arts and then move onto a Master of Fine Arts again at the Queensland University of Technology. An MFA allows an artist and academic to look into their own practice and develop key contributing elements that they can use to impact their community, country and world. After that I have plans to commence a Master in the History of Art abroad, preferably in England where I have researched courses at Oxford, Kent, and Cambridge to name a few. This second masters allows me to analyse the art world from a different perspective that is almost removed from my personal standing as an artist. Studying abroad allows me to connect and interact with like minded peers in a different setting, to broaden ideas and extend my knowledge. The money gained from Golden Key’s Undergraduate Achievement Scholarship would go towards the sizable sum needed to study abroad. I currently work part-time in a restaurant while studying full time in order to save for that experience even though it is still a considerable amount of years down the

An abundance of people appreciate the arts, whether it be the performing, visual or theatrical areas, on the other hand, I love them. My passion being the visual arts. Instead of writing and spelling at five years old, I was drawing, painting mixing colors and forming shapes not realizing the capableness of my techniques for such a young aged child.
