An important role in how I have been able to encourage race relations and cross-cultural relationships is in my participation in Girl Scouts. Girl Scouts World Thinking Day is a day where I have been fortunate enough to share my culture with other girl scouts in my community, while also learning about the other cultures and races of my fellow girl scouts; during World Thinking Day, we discuss many countries' geography, food, language, and a variety of other traits. At camp we have a Chinese meal every day, learn about Chinese culture, sing Chinese songs, have fun, and much more. Many of the teachers were born and raised in China, so I help them translate when needed and I also help my classmates when they have difficulties with the class work. I have genuinely enjoyed educating my peers on my culture and they have happily reciprocated mutual feelings on learning about the Chinese culture. Along with aiding the Chinese program, I was also enrolled in my school's Spanish language and culture class for three years. Throughout those three years, many of my classmates questioned my reasons for taking Spanish instead of Chinese. So, I would explain to them that it was not about getting an "A", but about learning, being diverse, and breaking down communication
