In this short radio play, “The Hitchhiker” there is a mysterious guy that keeps showing up wherever Adams goes. I believe Adams died and has now turned to a ghost and the hitchhiker is a sprit following his death. One reason I believe this, is because at the beginning of the radio play, Adams starts his journey to California. He crosses the Brooklyn Bridge and sees a mysterious man, also known as the hitchhiker. Adams is immediately distracted by this figure. Adams swerves to avoid hitting this man, and continues his trip. Fletcher writes, "...and if I haven't swerved, I'd have hit him." Sense he swerved that could have easily led to a car accident and cause Adams to die. Another reason I believe the hitchhiker is just a spirit and is following

Authors often provoke a sense of suspense in readers by slowly foreshadowing a future event but still holding back just enough information for the reader to become anxious to find out what will happen next to the characters in the story. This can no better be demonstrated than in Ray Bradbury’s short story “The Pedestrian”. In the book “The Pedestrian” by Ray Bradbury, the story takes place at a desolate town, the streets totally deserted and barren but for a single solitary man walking among the multitude of silent houses. The man, Leonard Mead, is depicted taking a stroll on the streets when he’s stopped by a police car. He is then interrogated on what he’s doing out all by himself and Mr. Mead answers, “walking”.…

“Night Drive” Constructed Response In Will Jenkins’ “Night Drive,” the author uses suspense to warn the reader to be careful about whom they trust when driving alone at night. One example occurs when Madge assumes Eunice is the killer and tries to find a way out of her situation. Jenkins writes, “She could have swerved the car and crashed it against something, and people would have run out and she would be safe. Injured, perhaps even killed, but at any rate safe from the man who sat beside her in the appearance of a woman, with tinted spectacles and an unbecoming hat and a flat and toneless voice.”…

The answer to life, the universe, and everything? Simply put, it’s 42. Not only did it take ten million years to get an answer that commonly appears on a fourth grader’s math test, but it also took an incredibly intelligent race on interdimensional mice to discover. Based on that first paragraph alone you should have gotten a taste of the wackiness that goes on in Douglas Adam’s A Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. This literary work is bursting with comedic “coincidences”, and it’s difficult not to chuckle at the well timed humor. Although this book is full of comedic relief, it never feels like a joke.…

The story is set 2053 and the majority of people stay in their homes and watch television, but one man, Leonard Mead, enjoys to take walks outside. In fact, he seems to be the only person who walks the streets, as in the ten years that he has taken walks, he has never seen another pedestrian. This shows how everyone has changed from being social to being isolated and glued to their television screens at home. On one walk, Mead is stopped by a police car which regards him as suspicious.…

A death of a loved one is something that can drop someone to their knees in agony. Karl Shapiro’s “Auto Wreck” faces the hard truth that is a car accident.
