Why Do Gun Owners Have So Passionate Against Gun Control

Superior Essays
Gun control is an emotional topic and for good reason. People feel very strongly that they have the right to own guns and are passionate about not allowing that right to be taken from them. On the other side, there are people who have been or fear being a victim to gun violence. These people do not understand why gun owners are so passionate about keeping their guns. My personal opinion falls somewhere in the middle, because I believe people have the right to own a gun for hunting or personal protection, however, I believe there should be limits on what types of guns people can own. I also think there should be stricter regulations in regards to concealed carry licensing. The gun laws that are currently in place are part of the problem …show more content…
If guns are legally taken away from victims then violent crimes would increase, because criminals would not have to fear being shot by someone protecting themselves. They could break into homes and feel confident that they will be safe in committing whatever crime they choose, whether it is rape, robbery, or murder. People should have the right to defend themselves, their families, and their property. Suicides and crimes of passion are easy to commit when a gun is readily available, is another believe of the anti-gun advocates. They believe that if a gun was not available than these people would take more time to think things through and perhaps not commit the crime at all. Suicides are most commonly committed with a gun and this could actually save lives. Crimes of passion should also decrease when someone has to wait to be able to commit murder out of anger that they will calm down and not go through with it. Gun control will save lives and keep people from committing crimes that they will later …show more content…
People should have the right to protect themselves, their families, and their property, however there are guns that can be purchased that have no real purpose unless you are planning a mass shooting. Of course some people just purchase these because they believe they are cool. I agree that these should be illegal to sell. Gun control would be great, but I believe it is an impossible goal. In a perfect world we would be able to get control, or better yet never have invented such a violent weapon. It is too late for that now, guns are out there among our citizen, and I do not see anyway of regaining control of them. Any attempt would only take guns away from law abiding citizens not from the criminals. Stricter gun laws will not stop people from going into schools or movies theaters and shooting mass numbers of people. These people obviously have no issue with breaking laws, therefore laws will not stop them. The only thing that stops people who are killing people with guns, is a gun. Not the kind of world I want my children to grow up in, but I truly believe there is nothing we can do about

It would be ideal and the country would be closer to being a utopia, but the dream of no guns at all is somewhat delusional thinking. Things wouldn’t go that smoothly and more problems would occur. Conclusively speaking, I’ve come to the conclusion that stricter gun control laws are the way to go. You can’t go from one extreme like high gun violence to another extreme like no guns at all. Some American citizens really love and cherish their guns, so we shouldn’t penalize them for the harm done by the irresponsible.…

Many criminals are willing to do whatever it takes to get what they want, and mentally ill individuals have no ethics to guide their decisions. Therefore, The United States should require mandatory, universal background checks, mental health screenings, and exams for all who wish to purchase guns. Guns should not be banned, however. Citizens of the United States do have a Constitutional right to carry and bear arms, which includes handguns. In the past few decades, firearms have had a big impact on society. These impacts have been both good and evil, and have caused controversy on the topic of gun ownership. Some groups, such as the Brady Campaign, would like to see gun control laws take away some rights and restrict others, whereas the National Rifle Association would like to protect gun rights and educate society on the use of firearms. Both sides want to stop the problem of gun violence, but protecting gun rights is the only way to truly insure public safety. Gun control will not be able to stop the use of guns, and it will put citizens in an unfair situation where they cannot protect themselves.…

Will gun laws stop violence? Almost everyone I know, knows what a gun is and what it is capable of. We know how dangerous they can be and how much damage they can do, but is eliminating the second amendment and taking our guns really going to stop any kind of violence with guns from happening? I would have to say no, because even though guns can be “banned” or “illegal” there will still be ways for people to get them just like they are getting drugs and other items that are illegal right now, whether it be an everyday citizen that does not feel safe without one, or a gang member that feels they need it to survive. There is still going to be violence with guns regardless of what the law is or what it says.…

Criminals will always get their hands on guns even with stricter gun laws, the people need to defend themselves. Gun free zones are no help, it just makes it easier for crazy people to kill people without being stopped. Armed citizens would be able to fight back in those situations where mass shootings happen, and overall save many lives. There should be fewer laws on the restriction of guns, to get a gun all you should need is a background check and to take a class on how and when to use a gun. No laws will stop or prevent these shootings from ever happening, but just take more and more freedoms away from the people.…

In answering these questions, we need to investigate all viewpoints, compare, and analyze them. Some people believe that having gun laws will prevent criminals from getting guns; however, this law will also mean law abiding citizens will not have access to gun. Some people also believe that gun control will have minimal effects because if criminals wanted guns, they will get them regardless of the law. Even though guns are considered a lethal weapon and therefore very dangerous, we need to educate ourselves and learn how to manage them properly so that we can acheive its benefits or use it strictly for their purpose. Guns are not the problem, people are.…
