One of these drugs is amphetamines and cocaine. If we follow the media, we will see stories about how crack is overflowing in the streets or how children are becoming addicted to their ADHD medicine. However, amphetamines and cocaine use are overstated. Despite both of these drug reinforcing repetitive taking only a small population is affected. Addiction can obviously occur while using these drugs, but it has to do more than just taking them regularly. Environmental factors and person’s characteristics also have to be taken into account. In the most recent years, there has not been much change in the percent of users of these drugs.

Many believe that this drug is a terrible drug that is corrupting all our youth. Marijuana does produce a dependency, but unlike many other substances it does not produce a desperation or craving. It also does not produce violent reactions like amphetamines or narcotics. This drug is used by many of our youth, but it does not produce any severe consequences. Many news articles have been covering stories about driving under the influence of marijuana making it seem like it is as prevalent as drunk driving. However, the truth is that there is not many cases of marijuana related accidents. To describe what can happen to many of marijuana users, “amotivational syndrome” is used to describe lack of motivation users experience in school and other activities.
