Dogs are domesticated descendants of wolves, and usually represent fidelity and company for a person. It is well known that we have a human-canine bond and according to the social support theory, dogs are a source of support and companionship. In this engraving, the dog looks starved, sad and almost upset; there are cases where people assure to feel stronger and more protected with the company of an animal, which would make sense as to why the woman looks mad and depressed.…
Understanding the Spectrum of Jealousy in Dogs The article my group picked was “Jealousy in Dogs,” the experiment was conducted by Christine R. Harris and Caroline Prouvost out of the University of California, San Diego. The article was published in July of 2014 by the Public Library of Science (PLOS). The paper covers animal behavior, specifically dog emotions. The topic is interesting because I was always told you anthropomorphize your pets by giving them emotions.…
The Peer Review Article that I chose is called, “Do dogs get the point? A review of dog- human communication ability” by Juliane Kaminski and Marie Nitzschner which was available online June 6, 2013. This Article approach to dog's communication ability basically uses a lot of research that has already been performed to prove their point that, “dogs forms of communication may be more specialized than was predicted by some and may be best explained as the result of a special adaptation of dogs to the specific activities humans have used them for” (Kaminski,Nitzshner pg.294). To prove their initial hypothesis they bring about various experiments performed from 1995 to as recent as 2012 to explain that dogs can understand human gestures when…
The fur industry has been part of American society even before there was a United States of America. The fur trade likely started when Hudson’s Bay Company was incorporated in 1670 (Dyhouse) and has continued to this day. While fur fashion trends have changed over the years, ranging from felted beaver hats in the mid-19th century, to hats trimmed with whole birds and stuffed kitten heads in the early 20th century, to today’s mink coats, one thing has remained the same; that every piece of fur clothing has come from an animal that was killed for it (Dyhouse). Because of concerns about causing animals to become extinct, furbearing animals have been raised on farms since just after the Civil War (Dyhouse, “Fur Farming in North America”).…
MONKEYLUV: A CRITICAL REVIEW As I picked up picked up my AP Psychology required reading, Monkeyluv by Robert Sapolsky, I wondered what on earth animal behavior could have to do with human psychology. The idea that we could draw connections between the conduct of mice and humans escaped me; I had forgotten that humans were, in fact, animals. Sapolsky does his best to drive this point home as he humorously, yet intellectually, illustrates the idea that humans and animals are often more similar than we’d like to admit, and how by studying their behavior, we might better understand our own. Just who exactly is this man to be shattering my worldview?…
Emotions to the dogs qualities helps show how the dog is gonna act like. Properly socialized dogs are quite affectionate and friendly, even with strangers... They’re intelligent and eager to please and tend to remain playful throughout their lives (“Reflecting on Pit Bulls - Whatever they are!”…
Although the brain of a person is more complex than one of a dog, the value of a man’s best friend is very low simply because a dog has lesser abilities. Because many humans see themselves as the puppeteer, the attitude towards these complex four legged animals needs to be higher. Dogs are complex creatures…
For example; I own a full-blooded pink nosed pit bull, her name is Dumplin because she is Plain white like a raw biscuit. I also own three other pit bulls mixed with Lab and German Shepard. They are all very loving to other dogs. Whenever friends and relatives come over, all of the dogs go to the door and wag their tails, because they think that everyone that comes over is there to see them. When you are sitting down on the couch,…
“Herzog, Hal. ‘Some We Love, Some We Hate, Some We Eat: Why it’s so hard to think Straight about Animals”. New York, NY, Harper Perennial, 2010. Hal Herzog focuses on the ethically inconsistent views that prevail in commonly held attitudes toward animals. The author suggests that moral incoherence is hardwired into the thinking of our species as a random by-product of evolution.…
Study #1 Article Title: It’s Not Just About Salivating Dogs! Author: Ivan Pavlov Date of Study: 1927 Hypothesis: Ivan Pavlov believed that if a dog was exposed to a specific stimulus while being fed, the dog’s brain would associate the stimulus with the food; due to this association, the stimulus alone would prompt the dogs to salivate. Variables: The independent variables, or the variables being manipulated and tested, are the various stimuli that Pavlov used to ingrain a response in the dogs: the ticking of metronome, footsteps, the scent of vanilla, a rotating object. The dependent variable, or the variable measured and tested, is the presence of salivation in response to a neutral stimulus after the dogs have been conditioned to associate the stimulus with food.…
You may know your dog well and never expect it to have any aggressive tendencies. However, there is no way to predict what any dog will do if it feels threatened or teased. Dogs that are ill or injured can bite the hand that feeds them as well. You would never expect your pet to hurt and bite you, but it can happen in the heat of a moment, only to snuggle up to you the next. It is not as uncommon as people think but why would a dog turn on its owner?…

Introduction: We experience interpersonal attraction when we emote the feeling of to love or to like another person, it can be defined as the power of the emotion of like or love we feel towards someone. Interpersonal attraction is established from the human nature of needing to belong. Baumeister and Leary (1995, p.522) stated that the need to belong is a "strong desire to form and maintain enduring interpersonal attachments. " Interpersonal attraction can be present between anyone such as family members or friends, although within this essay I will focus on interpersonal attraction with regard to romantic relationships and what draws two people together. I am asked to uncover whether it is the characteristic of how a certain person looks…
Vanessa Romero Professor Lyons English 101 26 October 2017 Dog people vs Cat people There has been an ongoing amount of debates among people stating whether a dog as a pet is better or a cat as a pet is better. Someone who identifies as a cat person can be mostly usually described as being more artistic and more reserved.…
