Curfews Keep Teens Out of Trouble Do you remember seeing that boy walking slowly behind your garage Sunday night at 1 in the morning? He’s now in jail for theft of seven victims’ property in sheds, garages, and vehicles. Many teens stay out late harming people, or vandalizing, and stealing people’s property. Youth curfews have been established to change these acts of crimes committed by teenagers, so they keep teens out of trouble. Youth curfews keep teens out of trouble because they’re safe in their home monitored by their parents; no teens are out wandering capable of harming anyone (this keeps others safe); if they do happen to break curfew, then it teaches the teen the consequences of their actions when risk taking. For example, in some studies not all the crime rate has decreased. Teens also find ways of avoiding law enforcement at night, thus, not getting in any trouble. A reason for this could be teens are thought to be developing adults, so teens want to be treated as adults. In this case if adults can be out at night, then some teens believe they have the right to be out as well. Another reason curfews don’t keep teens out of trouble is because a good amount of teens are simply playing sports at the parks, coming home from working late, visiting family/friends, or coming home from late night activities such as the local movie theatre or bowling alley. Teens remain in their homes, not being able to cause harm to anyone or put their selves in danger. Without a curfew teens won’t be able to cause any trouble such as vandalizing, damaging, or thieving anyone’s property. Suppose they do break curfew, they’ll suffer a punishments and consequences of their actions such as a violation fee. Either way the strategy of a youth curfew is effective in multiple ways including that of improving safety of teens, the public, and their property; a curfew shows reality in its truest form when taking risks because there are consequences of people’s
