Most college students will agree that tuition prices are the cause for much stress and debt in their lives, so why are colleges and state governments doing nothing about them? With many students opting out of college because of the price, one would think they would realize their mistake and cut the prices. The solution to the problem is that there should be a cap on tuition like there is on rent and gas prices. A cap on tuition would place an amount where tuition cannot be any higher than that stated amount. This cap can be instated by the federal government, state government, or the university itself by a case- by- case basis Colleges should put a cap on tuition because it will cut down on the student’s debt, give students a value that they know they will have to pay and nothing more, and it will make the price of college seem less scary and more realistic.

“Though drop-out rates vary, it is estimated that in the U.S., approximately 50 percent of students who begin college never graduate” (Pharinet 690). These students want to learn, but assorted reasons make is almost impossible to graduate and one of them is the price. Pharinet also states “The student who is not ready for the academic and financial challenges of college are the most common” (690). The students enroll and are ready to learn, but their wallets are not ready to pay the price. These students want to better themselves, but once they get the bill, the only choices they have are debt or dropping out. This is a real problem that has an simple solution: cap tuition
