Why Do Chloride Ions Enter Ground Water?

The chloride content of the water samples ranged between (70 mg/L – 180 mg/L). Chloride ions are not degraded in the environment and tend to remain in solution, once dissolved. Chloride ions that enter ground water can ultimately be expected to reach surface water and, therefore, influence aquatic environments and humans. The salts of calcium, sodium and potassium contribute chlorides in water (Khamabrade and Mule, 2005). S51 had the lowest concentration (70 mg/L) of chloride and S38 had highest content 180 mg/L of chloride salts. Similar results coincide with Manivasakam, 2003.
Very low concentration of phosphate was reported in the samples analyzed. The main sources of phosphate are mainly due to use of fertilizers and pesticides by the people
