Why Do Children Should Play Sports

The seasons of playing sports as a child and young adult are limited but the impact on one's self and the memories will last forever. Each child between the ages of 4-16 should play sports while growing up. By playing sports throughout the early years of life, it allows children to be physically active, as well as be educated on their decisions related to health. Unfortunately, there are many people who believe sports cost too much money. However there are more positive impacts than negative impacts on children with sports. As a result, children benefit greatly by expanding their social skills. Finally in addition, children gain ethics to eventually become a respected member of society. When there are programs for children to be enrolled in to play sports, it is common for them not be able to have the chance to gain all the benefits each sport offers. It is evident that children must be given more opportunities to be involved with sports through the ages of 4-16.

Every sport contains some kind of physical activity which promotes physical health. Giving children the opportunity to participate in sports “can contribute positively to a range of physical, mental and social health dimensions” (Eime et al) However, the population of children playing sports is declining, and the obesity rate is climbing. Undoubtedly, there are more positive impact than a negative impact on a child’s life. Whether the sport is with a team or as an individual, each child receives physical health benefits, knowledge of social skills, and the expansion to create ethics for oneself. Children must be given the opportunity to play sports to gain impacts that last a lifetime. Something as small as being physically active for a few days a week, can change a child’s life forever is incredibly significant to everyone
