Why Do Children Should Not Be Paid To Do Chores

Imagine you are having a blast hanging out with all of your best friends. It is 2:30 and everyone is heading home at 8:30. Suddenly, you remember you need to get the money for doing your chores and you haven’t finished them yet. After stressing about for a few minutes, you realize that leaving your friends and doing chores isn’t worth your weekly allowance. Your dog doesn’t get fed, and has diarrhea in the house because he didn’t get let out either. When you get home your mom is furious at you. You are grounded for 2 months. If you hadn’t got paid to do your chores, none of this would have happened. For years most children have been paid to do chores. Now parents are thinking otherwise. Children should not be paid to do chores because adults/parents do not get paid to do their chores, it teaches responsibility, and some things you do just to make others happy.
Children should not be paid to do chores because everyone has to pitch in and help for day-to-day chores. In the article Should Kids Get Paid to do Chores it says, “...if we pay you to do chores, you might decide that taking a week off is worth missing out on the money…”. The chores that needed to be done, like feeding the dog, will not be done if you decide to take a week off. You need to be responsible enough to take charge and do the chores. Parents never take a week or even a day off of work just because they don’t feel like it. So, you shouldn’t if you want to gain trust and responsibility.
