Why Do Children Meet Boo?

Improved Essays
I am reading the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. The first chapter is about a group of kids that are trying to make a virtually unseen man named Boo Radley, come of his house. In this journal I will be predicting and characterizing.

I predict that the kids will not meet boo for many reasons. First, Boo is always locked up and is rarely seen. The Radley household is closed weekdays, as well as Sundays. Normal townsfolk would usually go to church, and after that, would talk and chat with each other. The Radley house does not do any of this. Another reason for my prediction is Boo once stabbed his father with a scissors while he was scrapbooking. What would be scarier than having a guy out and around the public after randomly stabbing his dad? His father probably would never let him go out after that. Also, there is a rumor that Boo gets chained to his bed at nights. It would be hard for

A huge reason the kids probably wont meet Boo is that they are deathly afraid of him. Dill, one of the kids, is very fascinated by the household, but remains a safe distance away from the house. This makes it hard to meet Boo if they are too scared of getting close to where he lives. Boo is like the myth the town because the guy seems really scary to them. If a crime is committed in the town, Boo is usually first blamed, until the real culprit is found. One last reason that the kids are scared of Boo is that Jem tells them that he thinks Boo will murder them if they get to close to the house. Scout and Dill both are scared when he says this. When he says that, it only makes the possibility of making Boo come out even scarcer.

In this part of the journal I will be characterizing the Ewell family. An adjective to describe the Ewell family is lazy. Reasons for this description are that the Ewell boys have no

The second reason is people are scared of meeting him. He was the phantom of the small town. People believed that when he would breathe on flowers they would freeze and snap apart and, they created his personality to be threatening or scary. Others would say that the mere description of the Radley’s or their house would make people go crazy. The children would believe the mythical stories the adults would say and, that could cause them to be scared to try to have Boo come out.…

As I keep reading the story I have predicted that they will not meet Boo Radley. Boo Radley is locked up. When he stabbed his dad with scissors he was locked up in the courthouse so the kids will not be able to see him. The sheriff had no heart to put Boo Radley in jail with the Negroes, so he got locked up in the courthouse basement with no one. Boo moved from the courthouse basement back home, because Miss Stephanie Crawford said that Boo would die of mold if he stayed down there.…

This proves how fearful people are of Boo because they believe that he continuously commits crimes in Macomb. Miss Stephanie Crawford also made the accusation that Boo was watching her sleep further proving the citizen’s fear of Boo. I believe that Boo is a criminal, and he has committed a majority of the crimes that he has been accused of. It will be dangerous for the children to meet Boo, so Atticus will prevent them from doing so. Furthermore, there are many legends that surround Boo.…

Throughout the book he was mysterious but there were hints were thrown at us about who he truly was. Jem said, “I think I’m beginning to understand why Boo Radley’s stayed shut up in the house all this time… it’s because he wants to stay inside” (Lee 231 ch. 23). This quote makes me think that Boo Radley stays inside to stay away from all the harm that there is outside. A lot of the town would take advantage of Boo Radley, and they saw him as a bad guy. Not many people attempted to take a walk in his shoes, but if they would have, then they could have come to the same realization the kids did and seen that he was a good and innocent guy.…

Socrates once stated that “The secret to change is to focus all your energy, not in fighting the old, but on building a new.” As life goes on many changes occur every day, whether it is the smallest change in a person or a larger change in a community those changes affect many, allowing for them to either grow from those experiences or stay the same. Depending on the person many of these changes can ruin lives, while others change in order to face those problems. In To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Tom Robinson is accused of raping Mayella Ewell because of his race. The town of Maycomb soon engulfs themselves in the case, causing Scout and her family to deal aggressive behavior from the townsfolk.…

Harper Lee represents this theme through the actions of Boo Radley, Heck Tate, and Atticus Finch. Through the majority of the novel, Boo Radley was seen as a mysterious quiet neighbor that provided an outlet for Jem and Scout’s curiosity. This view changes as Boo Radley becomes the hero, saving the children from the murderous hands of Bob Ewell. Boo had been keeping watch on the children for years, caring for their safety by peeking…

Essay 7 Everyone has prejudice at times, but sometimes it gets out of control. The definition of prejudice is to judge someone or something without any knowledge on it, to be ignorant to a subject and judge it and anything that is associated with it. Most of the time these judgements are false because there is not any information behind it. Though prejudice maybe involuntary it still does not excuse some peoples actions due to it and the fact that it is wrong. The theme of prejudice in To Kill a Mockingbird was shown various times through Harper Lee's characters Jeremy "Jem" Finch, Artur "Boo" Radley, Jean Louise "Scout" Finch, and Tom Robinson.…

The main reason that Scout is so scared is because she trusts her older brother and he is always making up stories about Boo or telling her stories he has heard. One speculation is that if you knock on Boo Radleys front door he will kill you. Because of all the rumors the kids are too scared to put a toe in the Radleys front yard. Jem also mentioned that Boo is the only reason Miss Rachel locked up so tight at night. I think the main reason that both the Finch kids are scared is because Boo stabbed his dad and the suspense of not seeing Boo makes the kids even more scared as their imaginations go…
