Why Do Candidates Acquire Knowledge?

Improved Essays
Having knowledge is a great thing, but having the knowledge and knowing how to use is a great advantage over other people. It can make someone significantly powerful, often in many cases like this year’s presidential election. Whichever candidate is elected becomes president, which means they become powerful, however there is a way they got the voters attention in the first place. In politics there are many techniques and tactics that the politicians use to get a voter to vote for them. Candidates use their knowledge to their own benefit, they tend to misuse their knowledge to attract voters. In the book Animal Farm by the author Oscar Orwell and the 2016 presidential election, both prove to the audience that knowledge equals power by using …show more content…
Donald Trump uses this technique when speaking as well as other politicians.“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people,” ( Trump’s wall during immigration speech). Donald Trump said this during a speech, he is clearly using scare tactics to scare the people of America to believing that immigrants are criminals and that if voters vote him these criminals will not be allowed into this country any longer. He scares people into believing that they must vote for him so he can get a wall built to keep criminals out. This tactic being used has made me realize the importance of voting because these candidates are trying to intimate the voters and some voters fall for what it is that these candidates are actually trying to portray. I now realize that some voters may fall for this tactic because they’re intimidated and believe one of these candidates will in some way protect …show more content…
" Clinton called on white Americans to put themselves in the shoes of blacks “who fear every time their children go somewhere; who have to have the talk about how to really protect themselves when they're the ones who should be expecting protection from encounters with the police"(Clinton: Dallas shootings). Clinton reaches out to the voters by targeting African Americans and making sure they know that she cares and is aware of the problem. She uses euphemism to pull in African Americans to vote for her in hope that the shootings will stop. She calls on White Americans to reach out to them about the situations, to make them understand the pain it is that African Americans feel. Euphemism is another tactic that has made me realize how important it really is to vote because people are easily convinced by this, people get emotionally involved when someone understands or at least makes it seem that way. It makes people want to vote for these candidates because they believe these politicians will fix what the problem

“The basic tool for the manipulation of reality is the manipulation of words. If you can control the meaning of words, you can control the people who must use the words” (Philip K. Dick, 1980). We humans can be easily manipulated by words of someone. Words can be structured to target a certain audience, where the language used is varied depending on where it is being presented. We can see this in political speeches, where certain words are used with the specific purpose to give value to the audience.…

In an interview, Donald John Trump, an American businessperson and a Republican candidate running for president, specified: “ The immigrants are bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime, and they’re rapists. It’s coming from Mexico. It’s coming from the south and Latin America and it’s coming, probably, from the Middle East, but we don’t know because we have no protection.” As a result of the immigrants coming into America, Trump wants to create the immigration plan. If Trump’s plan is carried out, the Mexicans would be unauthorized to enter America because of the “great great wall,” possible recessions and riots would take place, and all illegal immigrants including the birthright citizens will be forced to leave America.…

In 1981, the infamous Lee Atwater detailed how Nixon gained political power by using deracialized language to maintain racialized stereotypes. Largely, this tactic was employed by attributing poverty to black people and then demonizing poverty or social programs that would serve to benefit those experiencing poverty. This serves as the new form of racism. Because actually passing laws to explicitly negatively affect black people would be a violation of the Equal Protection Clause, the maintenance of racial hierarchy comes indirectly in the form of dog-whistling, particularly with respect to drug laws. Investigation of the racialized treatment of drug laws in America demonstrates a system that disproportionately targets black Americans to the detriment of both their social and political power.…

In her book “The New Jim Crow,” Michelle Alexander (2010) argues that elites undermined the civil rights agenda by portraying the poverty and unrest in black inner-city communities in the 1960s as the product of inferior black culture (p. 45). Alexander has a very different idea about the cause, blaming it on globalization and suburbanization, which moved jobs out of cities (p. 50-51). Conservatives, however, succeed in what Birkland (2015) calls social construction, or “selling a broad population on the definition” of a particular problem (p. 188). In building this social construction, Ronald Reagan appealed to white audiences with terms such as “welfare queens” and “predators” (Alexander, 2010, p. 48). Reagan’s terms were symbols, which Cochran and Malone (2010) note are often ambiguous, making it possible to broaden an idea by “appealing to people with diverse motivations and values” (p.…

The most interesting detail I learned from the books is that a candidate being able to connect with voters is one of the most important things a candidate must do to win the presidency. It can be seen in the 1992 election as Clinton was able to connect with people and make them believe that change was possible. Bush in this election was unable to connect and so even though he was president when the Berlin Wall and the Soviet Union fell, he was unable to win the presidency. I believe this connects quite perfectly with the current election. Donald Trump was able to maybe not necessarily connect with voters, but he able to connect more than Hillary Clinton was able to.…

Donald Trump was an unexpected runner for this year’s presidential election. At first, many people thought his running for the presidency was a joke. Unfortunately, as time went on, what many thought to be a joke suddenly became more serious as more and more people began to show him support and he shows no sign of dropping out anytime soon. Which is unfortunate since much of what he says is far from being presidential, let alone professional. From what I’ve seen of his speeches and debates, he often makes terrible statements about other candidates as well as other groups of people, building off of peoples hate to rally more support.…

The U.S. - Mexican Jobs Problems It is sad how the American people and the politicians are taking and have exploited the idea that the Mexicans are the real problem in this country and every election time they used this idea to gain votes, making promises about deporting all the Mexicans from the US and build a wall on the US-Mexican border to stop the crossing of the Mexicans. Like Donald Trump say on TV about the Mexicans, “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re not sending you.…

“Dog Whistle Politics” is defined as political messaging employing coded language that appears to mean one thing to the general population but has an additional, different or more specific resonance for a targeted subgroup. Like a high-pitched dog-whistle, the message is only audible for the group it is intended to reach. Dog Whistle Politics: How Coded Racial Appeals Have Reinvented Racism and Wrecked the Middle Class was written by Ian Haney Lopez and looks into the racially charged coded language used within the world of politics. The book systematically explains how racism has evolved since the civil rights era and how politicians used that to their advantage.…

Unfortunately, the pigs that are led by Napoleon, a pig involved in the politics of the farm, deceive the other animals to gain leadership on Animal Farm. Moreover, this is done by seemingly manipulating the past, present and future events. The natural sciences are very much paradigmatic in nature. As outlined by Thomas Kuhn, the natural sciences are revolutionary as opposed to “normal”; Kuhn argues that in “normal science”, scientific progress is limited to the scope of the current paradigm itself. Revolutionary science deals with paradigm shifts, in which there is a change in the basic assumptions of a scientific theory. Paradigmatic thinkers, however, are often disregarded and brushed off due to their dynamic views. For example, the earth was thought to be flat for was widely accepted until Pythagoras introduced a spherical model.…
