As summer reaches its peak, many Australians are firing up the barbecue more than ever so they can escape from the heat of their kitchen. However, as a newbie barbecuer, you may be unaware that some of your actions are damaging your plumbing. It is time to become more knowledgeable on which barbecue foods could be causing issues so you can mend your ways before you need to add the expense of a plumber visit to your summertime spending.

Some foodstuffs you are choosing to barbecue could damage your food disposal unit. If you have never been warned which foods are a rubbish disposal no-no, here's two popular barbecue foods where the preparation remains need to go in the rubbish bin and not down the drain:

The prawn shells will combine into a ball and clog up your drain. If you can't get a plumber out to your home for a few days, then that clog is going to smell mighty fishy.
Fresh corn on the cob is delicious when barbecued, the the corn husks will stop your food disposal units from spinning. When you peel your corn, you will notice the silky threads that are wrapped around the corn, and these fibrous threads can wrap themselves around the disposal blades while they are moving. Once this happens the motor can no longer turn, and it can burn out if you attempt to keep running it while it is clogged up.
Look at each piece of food you are cooking, and if in doubt wrap the preparation remains in newspaper to reduce odours and throw it in the bin
