Why Do Athletes Get Paid Too Much

Improved Essays
Athletes these days get paid too much! All they are doing is playing around dribbling a ball around a court. While on other hand nurses are saving lives and healing sick people, and only get $ 70,000 a year. That’s not that much money compared to what Lebron James got. He earned $75,000,000 dollars last year that’s insane. Many people who have full jobs don’t make that much in a lifetime. Athletes get paid too much! Nurses and firefighters helping people when their sick, firefighters saving people from burning buildings. All athletes do is have fun doing nothing but getting tired. And they are getting millions, that’s sad because it seems like people care about a person that got talent more than a person who is badly sick and could die soon.

I am personally a collegiate athlete and knows what an athlete goes through. Players shouldn’t get paid millions of dollars like professional athletes, because why would players go on to try and play professionally. On the contrary they should deserve some type of revenue whether it's for clothes shopping, take someone out on a date, gas money, etc. For example that’s the same thing as me asking my friend to do something for me and he does all the work while I sit back and relax.…

Many athletes who are just considered average do not get the opportunities to be interviewed by the media, looked at as superstars on campus, and get free meals. The average college athlete will spend their time practicing or playing their sport. When they are not partaking in their sport they have to work on their education, which leaves them with practically no time for a job to make money. When you take a look at the University Of Miami’s footballs team in the early 2000’s you would have seen many players taking money from fans. This was illegal and still is in college sports, but it is what athletes had to do to get money for food and clothing off the field.…

“People complain that professional athletes get paid too much, but what they don’t understand is that we need a lot of money because we spend a lot of money,” is a quote from Patrick Ewing, a famous NBA star. His quote directly shows that athletes are being paid too much. For example athletes get paid a great deal more than the working class. They also get paid way more than surgeons, who save lives. There are also orphanages who barely make enough money to keep the kids safe.…
