Q: You have stated before that you create music to inspire people, to motivate them. Do you believe you have achieved that to an extent that would satisfy you as an artist? Go listen to all my music. It is the codes of self esteem; the codes of who you are. If you are a Kanye West fan, you’re not a fan of me but you are a fan of yourself.…
Aside from the album sales, Twitter mentions and hundreds of rounds of concerts, an artist can be tagged as impressive when he or she reaped a multitude array of awards from coveted award-giving firms. An artist does not need to be known within the widest scale for the trophies, citations and nominations drawn on his or her wake are enough to establish the talent emanating from within. Yes, it will be an added bonus if the majority of the crown adored a certain star, however, for those who believe that fame is nothing but a temporary gift, it’s best to recognized by those who really know the industry inside and out. If you haven’t heard of the name Anthony Hamilton or dismissed as something as common as John Smith, then prepare your eardrums to be entertained by this very talented minion of music. Born Anthony Cornelius Hamilton, now aged 45, had been around mainstream without us completely noticing.…
Today, I would like to introduce you to a piece of writing that means a lot to me. It's a song called "Fake You Out," by the band Twenty One Pilots. It is one of my favorite songs, and means a lot to me because I relate to it quite a bit. Let me start with the introduction of the authors, Twenty One Pilots. Twenty One Pilots is a band made up of two people, named Josh Dun and Tyler Joseph.…
Should musicians change their tune? This question is a controversial question asked my hundreds of people all around the world. Times are changing. The way people would market their music in the past in completely different than how it's marketed now.…
Adding all these factors together an artist will be able to reach there specific audiences or even grow there fan base because they are just giving the fans what they want. Beside reaching audiences and perfecting lyrical content they need to have good…

1) The relationship between the bourgeoisie and the proletariat has been an ever-changing alliance since the dawn of capitalism. With the new methods of communication erupting over the course of time, the ability to control the masses has become significantly easier. In modern society today, pop culture has figuratively become the main source to how people choose to live their lives. From musicians to socialites and actors, the public turns to the hottest figures in media to understand the latest trends, moral issues and even political standpoints.…
Melissa Avdeeff’s essay “Beyonce and Social Media: Authenticity and the Presentation of Self is about how celebrities or musicians create their public private persona through the use of visual aids. Ms. Avdeeff explains that scholars who study the current popular culture, especially in the music or entertainment industry view the digital social media and what is “authenticity”. Beyonce and others like her use social media to reveal specific visual images in order to control how her fans view their public private selves and give an altered view such as being glamorous which might not be quite accurate. Social media and fandom is an expanding area of research the use of person is very common.…
Toni Morrison, in her novel Playing in the Dark, brings up many arguments about today’s American literature, asserting that this world is a “genderized, sexualized, wholly racialized world” (4). She makes commentaries on how Africanism is being used as a way to keep power exclusively to the whites who are far more “superior,” and yet perpetuates Africanist traits as “exotic” and further objectifying the already-marginalized group. Most people nowadays avoid the topic of this racism, hoping that it will go away if they don’t bring it up. However, she argues that by avoiding racism, one is being racist. Just as in many of her other arguments, she is definitely correct about this topic.…
Mainstream rap and hip-hop portrays a distinct style and theme, which, to me, seems to be mostly centered on commercialism. The stereotype that exists for hip-hop exists because the mainstream hip-hop does fit into the mold that some of us talked about during the first discussion. Artists promote lifestyles that are unattainable for the majority, probably all, of their listeners. This focus on commercialism, always having the newest, best, and brightest editions of clothing, electronics, or cars, speaks to the general focus of our society as a whole. I think this is easily seen through the increasing popularity of Black Friday, which commercializes a holiday ideally dedicated to giving thanks for what we have.…
In the current time, we live in hip hop is predominantly a male art whereas females tend to take a literal background helping portray a life most men would cling and most females would find disgraceful. The biggest reason women are in hip hop videos nowadays is to wear what seem to be an ongoing trend of less and fewer clothes as the years go forward, this tells women of the younger generation growing up in these times that if you want to work in this industry you are most likely going to have to be a certain type beauty which society would accept as well as not talk or receive any kind of respect. There are a few women that are the exceptions to these rules, however, they do not help in the current debacle in which hip hop stands. In the past,…
During the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards, a shocking speech was given by a famous rapper. Leaning toward the end of the speech, Kanye West stated, “And yes, as you probably could have guessed by this moment, I have decided in 2020 to run for president” (Zaru). His speech is absolutely eye-opening to the audience, as Kanye would be the last person they would think that would run for president. Kanye West is into hip hop, not politics. Uniquely, the dramatic shift in hip hop will be beyond elucidated.…
By the 1990's rap artists like, DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince, Curtis Blow and Biz Markie were no longer accepted in the rap music" (Toms, 2006, p1). Those rap artists were considered as roll models, because those rap artists relayed positive messages to their listeners (Toms, 2006, p1). "The majority of today's rap culture involves a lot of explicit material and negativities" (McGarrell). According to McGarrell, This new form of rap music glorifies big money, degrading of women, drugs, alcohol, and guns. Many rap artist lyrics are explicit and degrading to women, while rap artist might be expressing what they have seen or the everyday struggles in life.…
“Fake! Cheap! Crude! Provocative!” These are all comments, remarks, and even headlines about Nicki Minaj. But aren’t we all forgetting that she is after all only human?…
We can all admit that at one point in life we have caught ourselves following the latest trends. We assume the style is an idea that is in for the moment, that came randomly from someone or somewhere that does not concern us. When in actuality it derived from a culture far from where we are with a deeper and significant meaning. This is what is known as cultural appropriation. No matter if it is an accident or intentional, taking an idea or style that does not belong to our original culture is considered as cultural appropriation.…
