Why Do Animals Go Mentally Insane

Superior Essays
Have you ever wondered what happens to animals in zoos, aquariums, and circuses after closing hour? People spend hundreds of dollars coming to these facilities with their families as a “fun” trip. People of the world are contributing to these animals facilities without even knowing what really happens to these animals behind closed doors. Animals are just being treated as props and not as living animals, and it is about time people realize this and make a change. I believe all zoos, aquariums, and circuses should be shut down, because the living conditions are atrocious, humans can go insane in these condition therefore so can animals, and last but certainly not least forcing animals to do such bizarre “tricks” is wrong and unsafe.
No one can argue that the living conditions of

Everyday thousands of animals are going mentally insane from the conditions of these animals facilities. All animals have feelings and emotions, just as humans Wente states, “elephants are capable of complex thought and deep feeling, and that the emotional attachments they form with one another may rival our own”. These animals all have the same feelings as us humans, but many people don’t see it as that. As I said early in the text, animals in the circus are kept in small cramped cages. The monkeys even have a chain around there neck, because when they get distressed they throw themselves against the cage in hopes of getting out. “The monkey’s can possibly choke and or hang themselves (PETA). Humans face depressions and anxiety all the time, so therefore so can animals. Some animals realize more than what people think they do, “An infant elephant was rejected by her mother and died of an overwhelming infection” (Wente). The infant elephant had no clue why the mother was abandoning her, and probably felt depressed that he or she had to go through that alone and pass away without the mother by her

The article “After SeaWorld, a ‘Blackfish effect’ on circuses and zoos?” by Kelly Wallace has gotten a lot of people feeling mixed emotions. In this article it says, “the public has completely changed its opinion on exploiting and killing animals for entertainment.” In SeaWorld animals are being killed and parents are not ok with this. This is no longer fun and educational for their kids. SeaWorld has banned the use of the bullhook which is a tool that helps handle and train the elephants.…

Tricia Kenney, who is a mom of two girls, says that her girls wrote school papers about this animal cruelty a while back and said how her own daughters stated, ".. zoo's and aquariums, for the most part, try to recreate a natural environment for the animal and, more importantly, don't disrespect them by having them perform all day long and do things that are completely unnatural for them"(Wallace, pg.1). After that a Dad named Whit Honea discussed how he doesn't normally take his kids to the circus because of the "'abusive treatment'" (Wallace, pg.1). He also went on to say how when they take their occasional trips to the zoo, they make sure it is a zoo that provides rescue for animals and provides good animal care. Whit then goes on to say how he tries to make every trip to the zoo a learning experience and how the zoos and aquariums should start to do that, instead of abusing animals.…

The importance of animal welfare is an important topic among us. Rob Laidlaw and Michael Hutchins who both have experience with zoos set the boundaries on how to treat animals and enforce animal care at different zoos. Rob Laidlaw, a co-founder and executive Director of Zoocheck Canada believes that Zoos should either adopt humane policies for animals or be shut down. By forcing zoos that don’t want to live up to standards in animal welfare to either change or forced to close will change the perspective of what’s really going on. Zoos will have to face reality that they will be shut down if they do not meet the standards of the animal and give the care that the animal needs.…

Animals are treated unethically in zoos around the world, especially when it comes to captive breeding programs that ultimately do not help with reintroduction into the wild. Zoos may claim that their methods are ethical and are beneficial to the environment and the species in question, but their practices end up hurting the animal in the long run. These problems in the system lead to the suffering of many animals in the pursuit of the perfect animal to release. Not only created for entertainment as they claim, zoos have been breeding animals and sending them back into the wild to die. Maybe one day, the typical scene at a zoo will be a tour showing animals in a wildlife preserve- safe, happy, and…

The act of holding wild animals in captivity, specifically for the purpose of entertainment has led many people to associate their abnormal behaviors to psychological suffering. Local zoos and aquariums seem to draw most of the attention from the general public about captive wild animal rights and welfare; however, many forget that traveling circuses are just as much at fault. Coming into one’s hometown once or twice a year, the traditional circus puts on a ‘spectacular show’ using wild animals as part of the main attractions. In essence, they serve as the living props for the actors and actresses that run the show. Among these animals, the most iconic of them all, are the Asian and African elephants.…

Zoos should be shut down and all animals should be able to live in peace and prosperity in their natural habitats. When people think of animal cruelty, they typically think of a pet owner abusing their dog/cat when, in reality, animal cruelty is much more than that. Animal cruelty constantly happens in zoos around the world. There have been many cases of animals being killed in zoos, for example, the Harambe incident back in May of this year. What had occurred was that a toddler had entered…

Animal circuses are inhumane because the animals are abused, are taken away from their natural habitat, and are dangerous not only to the people around them but also to themselves. Nobody thinks about what goes on behind closed doors at the circus: how the animals are treated, when they are fed, or what they go through just to put on show. As many animal lovers go to the zoo or to the circus, they would be disgusted to know how the animals are treated. If you have been to the circus you might be aware of how dangerous it is for the animals and for yourself. After all tigers are afraid of fire but are still pushed to jump through the flaming ring.…
