Despite the intriguing title, I did not honestly expect much from Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? Philip Dick structures the novel as a strange mix between science fiction and the stereotypical no-nonsense cop story. As the story progresses, however, the novel becomes increasingly nuanced as it addresses philosophical quandaries regarding empathy, identity, and what it means to be human. I felt that the author did a good job of subverting expectations when the question of whether a character was an android or not came up, yet still foreshadowing the true answer long in advance.
