Why Do American Directors Remain Independent

I do not believe that American directors can remain independent. American independent directors’ struggle with generating financing needed to produce their films. As the Study Guide states, “True independence has always been nearly impossible, since most filmmakers are not multimillionaires when they begin making their films” (Sikov 112). This forces independent directors to seek financing from other individuals such as Hollywood studios. Most of these individuals place constraints on the directors, because of their financing investment in the production. This results in American independent directors no longer being independent as they are influenced by others.
