Shouldn’t I be happy? Most people like having siblings, and I thought that having one would be fun, if they were near the same age as me. But fourteen years apart is too big of a gap.

When the baby was born, all went well. Thankfully, my mom and the baby were healthy, and when they took the baby home, it wasn’t too bad. At first.

Babies get sick very easily, and are very, very contagious. The whole household would get some sort of strange concoction of illness in a matter of days if the baby brought it in. It was absolutely horrible, and of course I was furious at my mom for deciding to have a baby when all it did was cry and get sick. But babies grow up, and I hoped that I wouldn’t have to deal with this for …show more content…

I learned to respect my mom’s decision to have a baby because it’s what she wanted, and no one should judge her for that, even if I didn’t entirely agree. As long as it made her happy, then I could accept it. I realized that people should do in life what makes them happy without having to worry about what other people think of their decision. No matter what, every single day somebody is being judged and labeled. Whether or not a person is overweight, underweight, mentally challenged, we are all being judged. Furthermore, growing up in a conservative, white, Christian family, has taught me many things about how I am expected to act, as well as which actions are acceptable or unacceptable. My culture and religious views molded me into believing that it was acceptable to judge others and be intolerant of different groups of people. In my family, you were expected to wait until married to have sex, then it was appropriate to have a child.…

Siblings can quite often be the longest relationship someone will have in their lifetime. Though many people hold the principle that having one child is the way to succeed in today's society and economy, the benefits to having multiple children is vast and expansive. The benefits outweigh the negatives to having siblings. Just as author Jeffrey Kluger states in his article The New Science of Siblings, from the time that we are born our siblings are our collaborators and co-conspirators, our role models and cautionary tales (395). The beneficial love, support, and influence on each other are some of the many bonds that are created.…
