After couple days of Marie's death, Wes was working on how he proof that his brother was guilty. Therefore, he was building a case by saying jokes and asking people about their families which is the same way if he ran a re-establish. He chose this method because he wanted to gain popularity and trustfulness. He was humoured and kind comparing to his personality before, which is hopeless and glum. By this technique, people will trust him and tell him about any piece of information that he needs.
