The United States economy boomed during World War l. United States exports increased from the start of the War when the blockage got put in place Britain and the time the United States entered the war. By entering the war the United States would need food, clothing, guns, ammunition and transportation. As the men entered the war by draft in May 1917 the women entered the work place. The war got financed by increasing taxes by the War Revenue Act in October 1917 and by borrowing from the public. There were four major communities formed in 1917. The Food administration in August 1917, Fuel Administration in August 1917, the Railroad Administration in December 1917 and War Industries Board in July 1917. The cost of the United States entering World War l was huge and had a negative effect on the economy after the war. Now the United States government was in debt and had to pay for it so the taxes got increased.

The black southern farmers were sharecroppers and were constantly in debt which became worse with a boll weevil infestation in 1915-1916 that destroyed the cotton crops. Also at this time segregation forced the blacks to use separate facilities from the white. The conditions were much worse in the facilities. When the United States entered World War l which offered the blacks more opportunities in the North. The blacks hoped that with the start of the war they would also receive benefits from World War l. Hoping to show patriotism and get equality, millions of black Americans got drafted willingly into World War 1. However tensions between the black soldiers and white soldiers gave way to segregated Army forces. Most black soldiers sent overseas did manual labor but one particular division, the 93rd Division, was given to the French Army and was extremely successful even receiving many
