Jamestown was made in what seemed like the perfect location. It was in a bay that had animal life from the ocean but the waves were calmer the only problem is that they were too close to the ocean part of the bay which means the water was too salty to drink. Another major problem that they settled right next to the strongest Indian tribe, which scared some from even setting foot outside of their fortress. One thing that was good about was that its was the perfect type of land to farm tobacco, but just like always there was a problem. Slavery never takes off in this settlement because fishing wasn't a painstaking task. The surrounding Indians didn’t unite against the English because they were too busy fighting amongst themselves. The first people that came into the land were Catholic Separatists (more commonly known as Pilgrims) in fleeing. The Pilgrims and some Indian tribes were actually able to get along for awhile.
The Middle Colonies were able to do what both New England and North Carolina was able to do. Just like North Carolina, the Middle Colonies had fertile land, but instead of growing tobacco, they were able to grow wheat and barley. Also, they were able to fish because they were near two rivers, which is exactly what New England did. This river is what made New York the center of trade.
